III. ACTIVITY/MOODSETTING
The group decided to have a film showing about two motivational short films
that will lighten up the atmosphere and boost their spirit in studying.

IV. MAIN ACTIVITY

The class will be divided in 5 groups. Each Group will have assigned topic or model of
organizational behavior. They will be given manila paper and pentel pen in each group.
They have to draw a symbol that represents their model. Each group will have a
representative and explain how the symbol is related to their model.

Group 1: System Model

Group 2: Collegial Model

Group 3: Supportive Model

Group 4: Autocratic Model

Group 5: Custodial Model

Each presenter will answer this guide questions

1. Cognitive: Why do you think that symbol is related to your model?

2. Affective: How do you relate yourself to this model?
3. Behavioral: How do we apply this model to an organization?

V. ABSTRACT

Organizational Behavior

The inherent power of generalization that helps us to predict the behavior of other
people, however sometimes our generalizations and predictions fail. This happens as we fail
to analyze and go into the depth of the patterns that are affecting the behavior of people at
that particular time or period.

Autocratic Model

Custodial Model

Supportive Model

Collegial Model

System Model

In this model of organizational behaviour, owners and managers have the power to
dictate and form decisions while making employees obey their orders. The model asserts
that employees need to be instructed and motivated to perform while managers do all the
thinking. The whole process is formalized with the managers and authority power has the
right to give command to the people, You do this or else, is a general dictatorship
command.

The Custodial Model

The basis of this model is economic resources with a managerial orientation of money.
The employees in turn are oriented towards security and benefits and dependence on the
organization. The employee need that is met is security. The performance result is passive
cooperation.

While studying the employees, the managers realized and recognized that although
the employees managed under autocratic style do not talk back to their boss they certainly
think back about the system. Such employees filled with frustration and aggression vent them
on their co-workers, families and neighbors. This made the managers think how to develop
better employee satisfaction and security. It was realized that this can be done by dispelling
employees' insecurities, frustration and aggression. This called for introduction of welfare
programmers to satisfy security needs of employees.
Although the custodian approach brings security and satisfaction, it suffers from
certain flaws also. Employees produce anywhere near their capacities. They are also not
motivated to increase their capacities of which they are capable. Though the employees are
satisfied, still they do not feel motivated or fulfilled in their work they do. This is in conformity
with the research finding that the happy employees are not necessarily most productive
employees. Consequently, managers and researchers started to address yet another
question. "Is there better approach/way to manage people?" The quest for a better way
provided a foundation for evolvement to the supportive type of model of organizational
behavior.

The Supportive Model

The basis of this model is leadership with a managerial orientation of support. The
employees in turn are oriented towards job performance and participation. The employee
need that is met is status and recognition. The performance result is awakened drives.

The supportive model is founded on leadership, not on money or authority. In fact, it

is the managerial leadership style that provides an atmosphere to help employees grow and
accomplish their tasks successfully. The managers recognize that the workers are not by
nature passive and disinterested to organizational needs, but they are made so by an
inappropriate leadership style. The managers believe that given due and appropriate changes,
the workers become ready to share responsibility, develop a drive to contribute their mite
and improve themselves. Thus, under supportive approach, the management's orientation is
to support the employee's job performance for meeting both organizational and individual
goals.

However, the supportive model of organizational behaviour is found more useful and
effective in developed nations and less effective in developing nations like ours because of
employee's more awakening in the former and less one in the latter nations.

Collegial Model

The Dictionary meaning of collegial is a body of persons having a common

purpose. As is clear from the meaning, this model is based upon the
partnership between employees and the management.

Collegial refers to a highly co-operative set of people working together by dividing the
labor among themselves for the sake of efficient working and to achieve organizational
goals.

This model is a sensible extension of the concepts proposed by a supportive model of

organizational behavior. It promotes mutual co-existence that should exist for
maintaining harmony among the co-workers.

COOPERATION + PARTICIPATION + SHARING YOUR IDEAS =SUCCESS

TEAMWORK DIVIDES THE TASK AND MULTIPLY THE SUCESS

SYSTEM MODEL

Employees want a wok context that is ETHICAL infused with integrity and trust and
provide an opportunity to experience growing sense of community among co workers.

There is spirituality at work- the desire for employees to know their deepest selves
better, to grow personally, to make meaningful contribution to society, and to
demonstrate integrity in every action take.

Managers must increasingly demonstrate a sense of caring and compassion, being

sensitive to the needs of the diverse workforce.

This model reflects the values underlying positive organizational behavior, where
managers focus their attention on helping employees develop feelings of hope,
optimism, self-confidence, empathy, trustworthiness, esteem, courage, and resiliency.

Managers at all levels needs to display two key ingredients:

1. Authenticity the demonstrated ability to open themselves up to others by being

transparent, while walking the talk of the underlying values.

2. Social intelligence.

Five Dimensions of Social Intelligence

1. Empathy appreciation for and connectedness with others.

2. Presence projecting self-worth in ones bearing.

3. Situational radar ability to read social situations and respond appropriately.

4. Clarity using language effectively to explain and persuade. 5. Authenticity- being

real and transparent, while projecting honesty. Karl Albrecht

5. Managers try to convey to each worker.

You are an important part of our whole system. We sincerely care about each of
you. We want to join together to achieve a better product or service, local community,
and society at large. We will make every effort to make products that are environmentally
friendly.

Employees embrace the goal of organizational effectiveness and recognize the

mutuality of company-employee obligation.

It creates a sense of psychological ownership for the organization and its product
services.

Employees go beyond the self- discipline and reach a state of self-motivation. The
highest-order needs (e.g. social, status, esteem, autonomy, and self-actualization) are
met. Engender employees passion and commitment to organizational goals.
VI. CLOSING ACTIVITY

Human Behavior flows from three main sources: desire, emotion and knowledge.
