Jim & Melissa Marcum Intercessory Missions Update September 2017

2017
Dear Friends & Family,
Its hard to believe that since our last newsletter a month ago, two major hurricanes have struck the U.S.
On August 25, a Category 4 hurricane (Harvey) roared into Houston, TX, and on September 10, Hurricane
Irma made U.S. landfall in the Florida keys, also as a Category 4 storm. The Weather Channel reported, For
the first time in 166 years of weather records, two Atlantic Category 4 hurricanes have made landfall in the
United States during the same year. We believe the power of prayer saved many lives during these two
calamities, and we have read & listened to many news reports showing the church coming quickly to the aid of
those left in distress by these storms. At IHOPKC, we have a close relationship with C.R.I. Crisis Response
International, and many of our missionaries work on the CRI teams. IHOPKC also put out special appeals for
funds to be sent to three local churches/ministries in Houston that we are in relationship with, and were so
thankful to have sent nearly $70,000 in aid during this past month. One night at our home group at our house,
right after the first hurricane, we had a special season of prayer for Houston. One of the ladies in our group
asked, You were in Joplin during the terrible tornado, tell us how we can pray for people going through things
like this. Joy was there at group, and she spoke up and shared how we experienced seeing the hearts of
people so tender after the tornado. She said, Pray for this window of time, before it closes, that many will hear
of Gods power and love to save and will respond. Lets continue to pray for the people in Texas, Florida, as
well as in the Carribbean, that the word of the Lord runs swiftly and many turn their hearts and lives to Jesus.
-Love, The Marcums

Several Pro-Life updates

Beginning another 40 DAYS FOR LIFE!
On September 27, another nationwide (actually global!) 40
Days for Life campaign will kick off. This is the largest
gathering to date, with over 375 cities involved. For 40 days,
the sidewalks in front of abortion clinics around the world will
be filled with believers praying for the ending of abortion in
their cities and nations, and reaching out with love and help to
the abortion clients and workers. Our local Kansas City
Coalition for Life is once again planning and hosting the event
here in Kansas City, and there will be dozens of churches and
ministries partnering with us. We (Jim & Melissa) will be
helping lead times of worship at the opening & closing rallies, and we will be out on the sidewalk weekly on
Thursday mornings. Please pray for us and for all the hundreds of campaigns going on from Sept 27-Nov 5.
Update on Missouri judges ruling to expand abortion
In our May newsletter, we shared about a ruling by federal judge Howard Sachs which allows Planned Parenthood to
expand abortion services in Missouri. They are still making plans soon to begin abortions at a new location in mid-
town KC, as well as in 3 other Missouri cities Joplin, Springfield, and Columbia. Governor Greitens has been at
work to resist this move, as has our attorney general, Josh Hawley. Our KC Coalition for Life leader, Wendy,
received this report from Kathy Forck, who directs 40 Days for Life in Columbia and who is involved in right-to-life
issues at a government level in Jeff City:
I'll try to fill you in as best as I can. Attorney General Josh Hawley appealed Judge Sachs' unjust injunction that he
put in place regarding a law that had already passed requiring Planned Parenthood to meet certain ambulatory
care and physician regulations. There were 3 judges who heard his case. Two sided with Sachs and one went with
Josh. So Josh appealed to the full 8th Circuit Court of Appeals in St. Louis (a 13 member court). I was notified
TODAY that they are going to accept his case and hear it - all 13 judges. To God be the Glory!
Please continue to pray for Josh Hawley, and especially now for the 13 judges in St. Louis who will soon be hearing
this appeal. And lets rejoice that, thanks to Governor Greitens and other pro-life law-makers, Missouri recently
passed Senate Bill 5, nicknamed the Pro-Life Mega Bill. This bill now requires abortion facilities in Missouri to
undergo annual unannounced inspections (no, many abortion facilities are never inspected). It also makes it a
misdemeanor offense (punishable by a $1,000 fine or up to a year in prison) for abortion facilities to request that
ambulances turn off their lights and sirens when responding to medical emergencies at abortion facilities.
Ambulances have been called to respond to the Planned Parenthood abortion facility in St. Louis 66 times since 2009,
and often they are requested by abortion staff to come quietly. There are several other provisions in this bill, all of
which will take effect on October 24. Read more about it (and watch a video) at: http://studentsforlife.org/missouri-

Satanic temple behind abortion in Missouri

Last month, we shared an article about the spiritual warfare going on over abortion. We believe that since Satan
knows his time is very short, he is increasing the warfare to take as many innocent lives as he can. We were amazed,
yet not surprised, to see an article in the Kansas City Star on September 13 with the headline, Satanists emerge as
advocate as Planned Parenthood restores Missouri abortion services. Here are excerpts from this article, the entire
article can be found at http://www.kansascity.com/news/local/article173168316.html :
Satanists. Abortion. Planned Parenthood. Where in the world would those three things have anything to do with one
another? In Missouri, apparently, where Planned Parenthood appears to have an unexpected advocate in its quest
to fight what it considers to be restrictive abortion laws.
On Tuesday, Slate staff writer Christina Cauterucci connected the rise of abortion services in Missouri to recent court
challenges to the states abortion laws by the Satanic Temple, a political activist organization and religion based in
Massachusetts. Missouris recent stroke of good fortune in the reproductive rights realm may have to do with
intervention from the fiery underworld, Cauterucci wrote. Earlier this week, the Temple began arguing - for a second
time - in Missouri courts that the states abortion laws violate their members rights to free religious practice.
Challenges from the Satanists to Missouris abortion laws began two years ago when a pregnant member of the
Satanic Temple from Greene County in southwest Missouri tried to use a religious waiver to become exempt from
two of the states abortion laws.
This [most recent appeal] happens as Planned Parenthood prepares to resume abortion services at its midtown
Kansas City clinic. Planned Parenthood stopped offering abortions at the clinic about five years ago. The number of
abortion providers in the state is now set to grow from just one, in St. Louis, to five, according to the Columbia Daily
Tribune.

Washington D.C. here we come!

In just 2 weeks well be leaving for an 11-day trip to the capitol in
Washington D.C. Thank you SO MUCH to all who have given
special gifts to make this trip possible for us. The Lord has used
you all to provide $1,095, enough to even buy tires which our car
desperately needed! Another surprise is that a precious couple
among our supporters were led to provide 3-nights in a hotel in the
D.C. area wow! We are filled with thanksgiving, and we look
forward to what is in store as we take our place in this historic
gathering. One of the highlights for us will be the unrolling of the
petition to overturn Roe v. Wade at the National Mall on Oct. 9.
Please pray for our trip - safety and the Lords providential appoint-
ments for us. Also, please pray for Jims health, as he has had a
bit of a setback. We are anticipating being able to share in our Oct
newsletter about our trip thank you all for making the way for us!

Final Word: If you havent yet, please sign the petition to the Supreme Court to overturn Roe v. Wade, at
www.themoraloutrcy.com, and please share it with others! As we end, we want to tell you about another
