 The IELTS board game

Teachers notes

Level: IELTS 5+
Age-group: adults / young adults
Topic: mixed
Language focus: mixed
Skills focus: speaking (IELTS speaking parts 1 and 2)
Time: 60 minutes
Materials needed: counters/coins + dice.

Procedure

Learners play the game in pairs or small groups.

They take it in turns to throw a dice and move around the board. When they land on a square they must speak about
that topic. If learners are encouraged to speak about each topic for 1-2 minutes, it is good preparation for IELTS part 2
speaking.
The teacher takes notes of errors as the learners progress round the board for general error correction / feedback.

NB

The squares on the board are colour-coded.

pink = news/business

green = feelings
yellow = likes and dislikes
