Current Trends in the industry (Manufacturing Industry)

Green Manufacturing replacing Existing Methodologies: Green initiatives are

more than just a political ideal. They are becoming essential components to saving
money for manufacturers. As the availability of resources and raw materials has
grown tighter, a circular economy is evolving. Unlike traditional, linear economies, a
circular economy takes advantage of product flows from both direction. In other
words, recycled, reusable materials can be processed and used to reduce the cost of
manufacturing items.
Companies turning to Low-Cost Marketing and Funding Solutions: New
technology can help manufacturers reach new markets and create new products.
However, more companies are still looking for cost-effective ways to develop and test
prototypes, and social media and crowd funding may be the solution. Most companies
already have technologies in place to interact with customers, but crowd funding and
social media provides another channel for communication. This communication can
be leveraged to gain insight and feedback for new prototypes from consumers and
industry experts while in the research and development process.
Customization replacing Traditional Inventory Management: Traditional
inventory management operations will change in 2017. Inventory management will
become more reliant on advanced computer analytics systems to manage inventory in
real time. This will eliminate shrink from theft, damages and errors during shipping,
reducing overhead and improving operations. Moreover, companies will be able to
manage warehouses more efficiently by eliminating overstocking or understocking
issues, and new technologies, including 3D printing, will make customization of
inventory needs easier.
Internet of Things (IoT): The connected factory is an idea that has been evolving for
the past few years. Increasingly, it means expanding the power of the Web to link
machines, sensors, computers, and humans in order to enable new levels of
information monitoring, collection, processing, and analysis. These devices provide
more precision and can translate collected data into valuable insights.
Robotics: In many cases, robots are employed to complement rather than replace
workers. This concept, known as cobotics, teams operators and machines in order
to make complex parts of the assembly process faster, easier, and safer.Cobotics is
rapidly gaining momentum, and successful implementations to date have focused
largely on specific ergonomically challenging tasks within the aerospace and
automotive industries. But these applications will expand as automation developers
introduce more sophisticated sensors and more adaptable, highly functional robotic
equipment that will let humans and machines interact deftly on the factory floor.
Augmented reality: Users simply follow the text, graphics, audio, and other virtual
enhancements superimposed onto goggles or real assemblies as they perform complex
tasks on the factory floor. These tools can simultaneously assess the accuracy and
timing of these tasks, and notify the operator of quality risks. Some industrial
manufacturing companies are using this technology to provide hands-free training,
enable faster responses to maintenance requests, track inventory, increase safety, and
provide a real-time view of manufacturing operations.
3D printing: Also known as additive manufacturing, 3D printing technology
produces solid objects from digital designs by building up multiple layers of plastic,
resin, or other materials in a precisely determined shape. Early adopters among
industrial manufacturing companies are using 3D printing to manufacture parts in
small lots for product prototypes, to reduce design-to-manufacturing cycle times.

Problems faced by ASR Industries:

Lack of Investment in Research and Developing section: When it comes to

investment for research for new product or technology, investors interest always
seems low. This affects
Global competitiveness with low price manufacturer like china: They have tried
over the decades tried to stand up in manufacturing industry but due to very low
competitive price in the global market, expansion faced difficulties.
Lack of potential buyer for high price products: Indian market has always been a
big attraction for the investors. Its large population and population density gives a
consolidated market but people are very cost effective which force industries to cut
down the prices, using creativity or research to manufacture at minimum price. This is
where currently Indian manufacturing industries like ASR are failing.
Lack of adaptability in industries: In today's time when technology is changing
very fast, new products with new design are coming and products are going out of
market as fast as they are coming, for which Indian industries like ASR are not ready
right now.
Lack of initiation from the Government: In India now we are working for make in
India campaign, which should have been done far back, which could have given ASR
a big push toward becoming a leading manufacturing hub.
Opportunities for ASR Industries:
Global expansion: Having a reach already in Japan and now Germany, ASR looks to
further expand its global market share as they proceed to realize their dream of being
a world leader in fixture manufacturing.
Marketing department: Currently ASR do not possess a dedicated marketing
department. However, focusing on this area will be essential as it will provide great
potential in the process of global expansion.
Joint venturing: Partnering with other manufacturing or distributor firms in other
countries is another way to speed up the process of expanding their global market
reach.

Action plan:
Allocating a dedicated team to perform a detailed cost analysis and employing the
concepts of lean manufacturing to bring down costs.
Set up a special R&D team to study new design and manufacturing trends. This will
further enable ASR to flexibly mould the manufacturing line as per the industrial
demands.
Analyse the practicality and feasibility of incorporating a dedicated marketing team
and execute accordingly.
Conduct a thorough survey about local market trends in other countries to scout for
potential partners and investors. This analysis would provide data regarding the
current mechanical fixture suppliers in these countries, their current capabilities and
the benefits that ASR will be reaping by virtue of a JV with these companies.
The demonstration for high priced products can be provided and the rationale behind
it can be explained. Also, strive towards using better and advanced technology to cut
down the costs can be made.
A detailed study of Ansoff Matrix can be done, which provides a strategic framework
to help executives, senior managers, and marketers devisestrategies for future
growth.
