"Smartphone and social media expand our universe we can connect with others or collect
information easier and faster than ever. (Daniel Goleman). [1] In todays world, digital technology
changes so rapidly and integrates into our society at such an accelerated rate, it is hard to keep up
with it, let alone reflect on the effects it has on our lives. Although Facebook, YouTube, and
Twitter, did not exist a mere decade ago, they are now ubiquitous forms of media and
communication in our culture. Todays generation of teenagers, born in the 1990s, aptly labeled
the iGeneration, are the most connected generation ever. These iGen teens are digital natives
growing up in an era of a massive influx of technology. They do not know of a world that does
not include the Internet and easy access to technology. Parents of iGen youth, however, are
digital immigrants. Mobile phones are really essential for everyones life. But, it doesnt mean
that you cant live a life without a mobile phone. The benefits of smart phones are very evident.
If you will search something on internet and you're in hurry you can use it instead of computers
or laptop. It has portable camera where you can capture different occasions or happenings, you
dont need an extra camera or video recorder as long as you have a Smartphone. There are
applications that can help you for your studies like dictionary, WPS office and etc. You just need
to install it first. Also it has games that can enhance your thinking skills, problem solving ability,
and it can your stress reliever . Every morning it works as an alarm clock. Also, it works as a
reminder if you put some notes on the reminder. You dont need a calculator as long as you have
a mobile phone. You can take a snapshot or download lecture slides or you can even record all
the lectures. Any doubt you can Google it. You can use the mobile phones as your personal
diary. For any video explanation, you can use the YouTube. If students have a mobile phone, it is
easy to contact anyone when they need. For instance, if students have a problem in school or in
the street after school, they can contact their parents immediately. Likewise, students with a
phone can contact police at any harmful situation. So, the mobile phone is one of the best
solutions for any emergency situation. This is how students can use their mobile phones for
various purposes. We should also pay attention on the disadvantages of using the smartphone so

Scope and limitation
The main focus of this study is how the information technology students will manage
their time between their study and their smartphone. [1] This study will act as a reference for the
future proponents that have a related study to our present study. This study will be looking for
the demographic profile of the respondents to identify their grades and the effect of smartphone
to the students. Although using smartphone is very beneficial the bad and negative effects of it
cannot be neglected. Using it can make the student antisocial. Because they are spending more
time using it rather than talking with others. This bad behavior can affect the ability of the
Students to communicate with others. Because using smartphones are very portable they can
easily have an access in any websites that are off limits for them like porn sites, deep web, and
any sites like. The parent will not notice it because it is major secret. The student can also be
victim or the bully in social media which is capturing the attention if the government right now.
Excessive using of this gadget can affect the health of the user badly.
However the limitation of the study was to focus only on the effects on the academic
performance of the information technology students that spend most of their time using their
smartphones. It didnt tackle other effects such as health and social effects. The researchers
chose this study to prevent too much use of smartphone to avoid problems in the futures.

CHAPTER II
Based on the article of Barnwell (2016) it seems that some kids can handle the
multitasking that using phones in school would require; for others, the smartphone is almost
always a distraction. Even the visible presence of a phone pulls students and many adults away
The phone could be a great equalizer, in terms of giving children from all sorts of
socioeconomic backgrounds the same device, with the same advantages. But using phones for
learning requires students to synthesize information and stay focused on a lesson or a discussion.
For students with low literacy skills and the frequent urge to multitask on social media or
entertainment, incorporating purposeful smartphone use into classroom activity can be especially
challenging. The potential advantage of the tool often goes to waste. [1] Using our mobile phones
inside the classroom can affects to our study because we are not focusing in our lessons or
discussions because some students use their smartphone for any purposes.

The effect of Smartphones on work life balance
According to Lissa Donnelly that the smartphone are affecting the work-life
balance of users. The common thread is that because smartphones now provide the ability
for users to be connected to work email etc. 24/7 that it is removing the boundary
between work time and personal time, therefore distrupting the work-life balance.[1]
According to the article of Judy Wajcman, Michael Bittman, and Judith E. Brown The
key components of the survey investigated here are a questionnaire and a log of phone
calls retrieved from respondents' handsets. Rather than being primarily a tool of work
extension, or even a tool that facilitates greater work-family balance, we show that the
main purpose of mobile phone calls is to maintain continuing connections with family
and friends. Our findings suggest that individuals exert control over the extent to which
calls invade their personal time, actively encouraging deeper contacts with intimates. [2]
People are not focusing on their work because they using their smartphone. They
were not able to balance their time between their wok and using their smartphone.

Impact of Smartphones on Society
Smartphone are obvious include business, education, health and social life. Mobile
technology has drastically changed the cultural norms and behavior of individuals. The impacts
are both at the positive side and also at the negative side. At one end Smartphone are enabling
people to create their own micro-cultures and engage into activities considered dangerous of
society and on the other end Smartphone enabling people to remain connected all the time. The
subsequent sub-sections of this study provide detailed account on positive and negative impacts
of Smartphone on society. There has been a drastic growth in broadband and Internet service
providers business in past few years and one of the main reasons for this drastic increase in their
business is the ever increasing use of Smartphones and growth of Smartphone and mobile

The impact of smartphones and mobile devices on human health and life
electromagnetic waves. Numerous studies have been conducted in the past years to identify the
effect of electromagnetic waves emitted from the cell phones on human health. The topic has
been studied for a long time, but in past, it touched on a rather narrow circle of people, mostly
staff of broadcast and specialized radio stations. Even at that time, measures taken to protect
people from radiation apply only on those who work near powerful sources of radiation. And,
despite the revolutionary changes in the field of telecommunications, as well as many discoveries
and emissions, the impact of electromagnetic waves of different frequencies hotly debated ever
since. As soon as mobile phones more and more part of our lives, the world is continuing
research to proof whether cell phones are harmful to human health? Today there is no official
statement announced by laboratory or medical center to answer this question. The complexity of
the analysis of the statistical data makes the task more difficult for researchers. The impact of
harmful radiation emitted from cell phones waves is still being studied. [1] Using of this gadget
can affect the health of the user badly. Poor eyesight is cause by spending so much time staring at
your phones. You can have muscle crumps. It radiation coming from it can affect your brain and
reproductive organs. It can disable your organ to produce healthy sperm cell or egg cell. So! We
should be preventive and smart of using it. So we can avoid these problems.
