particularly important inthe fancy restaurant and on the Golden Gate Bridge, We
encourage you to take your time developing this relationship, allowing for nuance in a

DOGFIGHT isa musical about the power of compassion and empathy in 21
unlikely content. Set on November 2, 1963, on the eve of the Kennedy
‘sssasination, the majority of the show takes place in the final hours ofan ge of
American innocence that will quickly dissipate. A sense of American arogance
helps to fuel de entitled worldview embodied by our Vietnam-bound Marines,
unaware of thedangers that lie ahead of them across the Pacific Ocean, Ths allows
them to charge forward with a fesing of invincibility, vol of consequence
Tough the contest the Marines holds undoubtedly a eruel one, we try not to
reduce these young then t evil characters. They ate senseless and uneducsted
ater than heartless. should be noted tat the Dogfight was an actual tradition
hat took placein the Corps. We see this practice as an exlende way of
conditioning Marines to learn how to extirpate humanity Srom others. Wren they
their dates as objects rather than people with feelings, it canbe viewed
preparation for what comes nen they will soon be required t kill men in combat,
pered by gull or culpability
It’s not unit Rese shows Eddie her humanity that any of our Marines brazen and
cateess attitudes is challenged. Hi
Jeep wells of empathy and compassion unlock
his own humarity and force him to challenge his assumption of “the oth
Lastly, it should also be noted that not our intention to make any of the women
uly” The only requirement is that the audience net identify the women chosen
conventionally airactive within the context of 1963 America. It's important not to
present these women too broadly inthe pursuit of cheap laughs. The Marines lack
‘of respec forthe women shouldn't fel like the show's
‘ie thank you from the bottom of our hearts for helping bx
