Fault Code 1117 (Source Address 01)

Power Supply Lost With Ignition ON - Data Erratic, Intermittent, or Incorrect

CODES REASON EFFECT

Fault Code: 1117 Power Supply Lost With Ignition Possible no noticeable performance effects,
PID(P), SID(S): ON - Data Erratic, Intermittent, or engine dying, or hard starting. Fault
SPN: 627 Incorrect. Supply voltage to the information, trip information, and maintenance
FMI: 2/2 ECM fell momentarily, or the ECM monitor data can be inaccurate.
Lamp: None was not allowed to power down
SRT: correctly (retain battery voltage
for 30 seconds after key OFF).

Circuit Description:
The electronic control module (ECM) receives constant voltage from the batteries through the battery 1 voltage wires
that are connected directly to the positive (+) battery post. There is a 10-ampere fuse in the battery 1 voltage wires to
protect the harness from overheating. The ECM receives switched battery input through the ignition wire when the
ignition is turned ON. The battery 1 voltage return is connected directly to the negative (-) battery post.

Component Location:
The ECMs are connected to the batteries through the 4-pin connectors on the OEM harness. This direct link provides a
constant power supply for the ECMs. The location of the batteries will vary with the OEM. Refer to the OEM service
manual.

Shop Talk:
There are multiple ECMs for the engine models included in this manual. Each ECM has an individual source address that
is displayed when INSITE electronic service tool is connected. When troubleshooting a fault code, use the source
address displayed in INSITE electronic service tool to determine which ECM and circuit is affected.
If the ECM unswitched battery supply is taken from the starter, check for low voltage during cranking. Low voltage
during cranking can cause the ECM power supply to drop below specifications and log Fault Code 1117.
Inspect the intermittent keyswitch for fast keyswitch cycling.
NOTE: If a battery disconnect switch is turned OFF after the keyswitch is turned OFF, but before the ECM completely
powers down (up to 30 seconds), this fault can register.
Verify that the ECM unswitched power is coming from the batteries and not the starter or other device. Check for low
voltage during cranking. Low voltage during cranking can cause the ECM power supply to drop below specifications and
log Fault Code 1117.
Corrupted voltage (short interruptions or other spikes that can only be seen with an oscilloscope) on the ignition wire
can cause this fault.
