LESSON PLAN ONE A - Wondering at the Creator

Teaching Focus for the Lesson


Lesson objectives: Key Understanding/Learning Point
Students will identify ways in which we are unique. A1 Wondering at our Specialness
Students will compose a piece of writing describing their
specialness. A1.1 Explores ways that each of us is special.

Introduction: During Mat session


Prior Knowledge: This is an introductory lesson for this RE unit. List of statements
Explain to children if we look around us we can see that we have many similarities and differences. Who has brown hair?

Explain to students that they will be rotating around independent and instructed activities during
the literacy session.
Table 1: using your favourite colours children will sponge paint Elmer in a patchwork pattern. Once
dry they will cut them out. This will be assisted by the EA.
Table 2: children will be writing about why they are special. Writing prompt will be used.

Key Understanding/Learning Point
Teaching Focus for the Lesson
Children will reflect and respond to the story of Jesus and the children. B1 Jesus taught that people are special to God
[Mark 10:13-16] B1.1 Explore the story of Jesus teaching that people are special.
Children will write/ record a recount of the story .

2 Disciple
Jesus came to teach us about God. One thing that he taught was that children are very special. 4 children
Seat children in a semi-circle ready to listen to the story. When children are settled, go and pick up 1 adult

I wonder what might be in the box today?
I wonder what the story might be about?
Gradually pull out different parts of the story for example one of the characters.
I wonder who this could be?

Activity: table activity during Literacy lesson.

Some children will be completing independent table activities.


Dress ups will be provided in the home corner for children to dress up and retell the story through
Drama. ( there will be a system of 5 pegs to show how many children will be able to use the home
corner. Each child will take a peg. Once the pegs are gone children will need to wait their turn)

The teacher will explain that children will be retelling the story of Jesus Blesses the Children using
the App Book Creator. Explain to children that pictures may be drawn or taken from a google docs
page that they will have access to.
Students will work in pairs decided by the teacher.
Remind students that the teacher is looking for who is in the story, what happened in the story,
where the story was and what happened at the end.

This may take a few lessons to complete.

Key Understanding/Learning Point
What happens when a person is baptised.
Children will recognise and list key people in the celebration of Baptism. Represents that through Baptism people become members of gods family

Timing Steps of the Lesson Resources

Introduction:
Prior Knowledge: the childrens parents have been invited to share with their child the memories of Photographs brought in by the children
their Baptism. Teacher will explain that not all children have been baptised and some may not have
a photograph of the event. Those children who are not baptised may bring a photo f themselves at
a special occasion e.g. Birthday or wedding.
Children can focus on how God came to live in a special way in their classmates.
When people are Baptised, they become members of Gods family. When people become members
of gods family, god helps them to develop their specialness.

What is a celebration?
Every year those who love you celebrate your birth. We call it your Birthday. And we celebrate it
with a ritual called a Birthday Party. We have a cake and candles as symbols of your birthday and
the person whose birthday it is gets to blow out the candles. What we are celebrating is your life.
So when we are Baptised as a baby for example we call this a Christening and the ritual is being
immersed in water or water placed on your forehead.

Students will now move to table activities. This activity involves student drawing, labelling and then
list 5 people or things that they see at a Baptism.

The teacher will ask children: who can name some of the important people at a Baptism? We bow our heads and we pray
What does the baby wear at a Baptism? That God will keep us safe and sound until
