The industrial accidents in Malaysia showed a fluctuation from 2011 to 2015. Among the
focused sectors, the statistics showed that the largest number of accidents occurred in
manufacturing sector, followed by construction, and mining and quarrying. The accidents
resulted in death, permanent disability and non-permanent disability to the victims. From
caught in or between objects, exposure to or contact with extreme temperatures, falls of
persons, struck by falling objects or other types of accident which are not elsewhere
classified or not classified for lack of sufficient data are considered as industrial accidents.

The lowest number of victims was in 2011 with 1,771 victims while the highest was in
2015 with 2,301 victims. The number increased by 4.58% in 2012 but decreased by 2.29%
in 2013 and continued rising by 1.25% and 9.52% in 2014 and 2015 respectively. Although
there was a decrease in 2013, the fatality was the highest with 14.67% while the lowest was
in 2015 with 10.13%. The reduced percentage was probably in conjunction with Malaysias
objective to reduce the fatal accidents by 20% by 2015 (Hui-Nee, 2014).

Accidents at the workplace should be prevented with the cooperation from both
employers and employees on top of regular enforcement from the government. Industrial
accidents are preventable and safety measures could help reduce the severity of
occupational injuries.
