an integral part of the city’s

Determined to give Bombay a landmark that would place it amongst the greatest cities of the world, Jamsetji N. Tata built this icon
in 1903. A trendsetter at the turn of the century, it was the first hotel in India to have electricity. At the time, it was probably the
only place in the world where a British Viceroy could rub shoulders with an Indian Maharajah, where the Congress could debate
with right wing leaders, and where sailors on shore leave could flirt with the Pompadour Follies. Predating the Gateway of India by
almost two decades, it was the Taj that welcomed the world to the city’s shores.
As the decades passed, and its reputation spread, the guests grew even more varied. It has been home to heads of state and star
celebrities, kings & queens and Hollywood royalty, Maharajahs and rockstars. In fact, The Taj Mahal Palace represented the Global
Village before the term became a cliché.
THE RESTORATION
The Taj Mahal Palace, Mumbai has mastered the art of keeping one foot firmly planted in a glorious past, even while the other steps
gracefully along with the times. Today, it is a hotel recharged with energy and an indomitable spirit. After extensive refurbishments
by internationally acclaimed designers, the Grande Dame of Apollo Bunder is set to captivate more stylishly than ever before.
Even as the glorious blend of Moorish, Oriental and Florentine styles in its grand exterior structure remains comfortingly the same,
things have changed inside its doors. The legendary rooms and suites, iconic restaurants and historical meeting spaces have each
been restored, keeping in mind both, the hotel’s legendary grandeur as well as Mumbai’s always throbbing, always modern pulse.

ROOMS AND SUITES

The hotel’s tradition of gracious
hospitality, high living and impeccable
service continues in the refurbished
rooms and suites. In the former, original
artworks and period furniture evoke a
trademark old-world charm, while
state-of-the-art amenities keep today’s
traveller feeling perfectly at home. In the
latter, guests get a taste of what it was
like to live like a Maharajah, in the lap of
regal luxury, with the pampering of every
modern amenity, and a personal butler

Palace and Tower Wing. The restored
Palace Wing opened on 15th August
2010.
Tower Wing Rooms
With its arched balconies, the Tower
Luxury Grand Room, The Taj Mahal Palace, Mumbai

have been completely restored by four of
the world’s most acclaimed designers-
LTW from Malaysia, Lissoni from Italy, JPA
from Singapore and BAMO from the US.

century old heritage, with genuine
artefacts and antiques gracing the aisles.

The Grand Luxury Suites
Aptly named, these suites are each
adorned with a charming theme, rich
textures and hues, and an opulent decor.
The lavish Bell Tower Suite with its
panelled library entry, loft-like bedroom
and master bath perched at the very top
of the suite evokes the romance of a
seafaring sojourn. The Maratha & Lotus
suites have their own integral leitmotif,
paying homage to the great warrior tribe
and the national flower of the land
respectively. The Ravi Shankar suite offers
a glimpse into the musical maestro’s
stellar career, including his collaboration
with The Beatles’ George Harrison, who
was once himself a guest at the hotel.
The Presidential Suite
The signature architectural creations
would not be complete without a
reference to the founder of the Taj. The
Tata Suite is designed to celebrate the
legend of the Tata’s, and makes a
remarkable statement with white
makrana marble floors, intricate
marquetry on timber, Indian hand-knotted
carpets, a spectrum of colonial furniture
and a sparkle of crystal chandeliers. It all
comes together to capture the essence of
high living created and personified by the
hotel’s founding fathers.
