Discuss your opinion on Jesus approach to learning and how it aligns to humanist thinking.

I think Jesus approach to learning has a very close correlation with humanism. He used

storytelling to help people understand His teachings and so they could more easily relate to the

message. He was a mentor to his disciples and to other people He encountered.

Discuss the opportunities you could take to apply the growth mindset modeling as provided in

the infographic.

I think school and education has a negative connotation with so many people today. My step-son

just told me yesterday that he doesnt like school. He doesnt like sitting still all day. We had

previously discussed a pilot program where student were allowed to stand up in class or to sit in

seats that moved to encourage fidget (which improves concentration). As a whole, society

makes learning a chore and its usually not seen as fun. This prevents students from learning at

their maximum potential and may prevent them from engaging in the learning. We must

transform learning so that it is positive in nature and that it is seen as a good thing. Based on the

infographic, all learning must be praised. The fear of failure should be removed so that students

can learn freely. The second concept from the infographic is about sharing in learning so that

everyone gets to learn and knowledge is freely shared among people. People are not robots and

checking items off of a to-do list is not an effective way to build skills. When a person is

allowed and encouraged to learn something new, it encourages even more opportunities for

learning. It creates a continuous cycle of learning and continuous growth. I love the part of

incorporating storytelling into the learning environment. We each have our own story to tell

about how we got to where we are now. We have each grown and stretched in our own, unique

ways. Sharing our stories of growth and development with others will help them to see the

importance of growth and development.

Incorporate at least one scriptural example of how biblical thinking aligns with humanist

approaches to learning.

Proverbs 1:7 New International Version (NIV)

7 The fear of the Lord is the beginning of knowledge, but fools despise wisdom and instruction.

I chose this verse because it says that all knowledge begins with the fear of the Lord. It also

points out that it is a bad thing to not learn. My take on this is that only fools dont want to learn

and grow. Wise people want to continue learning and growing so they can become more

knowledgeable. This aligns with the humanist approach because learning is seen as a good thing

and people should want to seek it out.

approaches to learning.

Daniel 12:4

4 But thou, O Daniel, shut up the words, and seal the book, even to the time of the end: many

shall run to and fro, and knowledge shall be increased.

I found some very negative articles and information regarding humanism and how it is not

scriptural. I chose this verse because it depicts how the increase in knowledge of people in the

world shows that the end of time is near. This scripture seems to have a negative connotation for

learning and knowledge in general. Several passages that I found emphasize that learning should

be centered around God and not around the individual person.
