Overview
The series adopts fixed and modular structure, and provides broadband-
narrowband, multi-service and intelligent solutions for users. The series
has 100M packet-forwarding capacity from LAN to WAN. It can be used to
access multi-Ethernet nodes such as network ends, PC and video monitor
in finance, securities, insurance and government industries.
The router provides many software features such as SNA/DLSw, VoIP, VPN,
MPLS, multicast, MAC address binding, and access control and bandwidth
restriction. The series provides backup schemes and QoS features. It can
be applied to multiple services such as data, video and voice.
The router series, combined with other Maipu routers, provides complete
WAN network solutions for operator, finance, government, energy sources,
traffic, education and military industries, and large/medium enterprises.
Key Features

Intelligent multi-WAN load balance for coexistence of services
Provides intelligent NMS for automatically diagnosing router faults to
realize Zero-spot service
Inbuilt hardware encryption technology ensures key services of finance
system can be transmitted on IP lines
Each Ethernet port uses L2/L3 technology to realize flexible support for
services
Features
Broadband-narrowband integration supports N*64K-100M lines
MP2800 extends features of Maipu broadband-narrowband routers and
provides several high-speed multi-function slots to access N64K, 2M
and N2M narrowband lines and realize MODEM and ISDN dial backup
schemes. The fast-forwarding engine technology developed by Maipu
makes WAN 100M line interface reach wire-speed forwarding
supporting the extension of WAN line bandwidth to 100M in advance.
Intelligent multi-WAN load balance for coexistence of services
Lower MP2800 series router assigns traffic to balance load by providing
two or above lines on access/network nodes to reach one upper server.
When some lines become invalid, traffics can be re-assigned to other
lines.
Hierarchical QoS
The priorities of various services can be realized on specified
bandwidth of MSTP 100M port. MP2800 supports narrowband lines and
MSTP/MPLS broadband lines. For MSTP/MPLS, the lines are for 100M
interfaces, but in fact, the bandwidth applied by users is only a part
such as 2M, 5M, 10M, 20M and 50M. Inconsistency between interface
bandwidth and practical bandwidth results in traditional QoS becoming
invalid. S0 MP2800 router adopts hierarchical QoS on Ethernet ports to
realize bandwidth control first, and then secondary bandwidth
allocation for different services. The QoS service of MP2800 router
supports RSVP, CAR and queue policies such as FIFO, PQ, CQ, FQ,
CBWFQ and LLQ to ensure priorities of key services.
Supports MPLS and L2TPv3 to provide strict network area
division for a single line bearing multiple services
MP2800 supports MPLS, L2TP and IPsec, which can be used to deploy
VPN networks from Layer 2 to Layer 3. When branch offices are inter-
connected by various lines, multiple services can be born on a single
physical network to ensure the security and save cost.

Installation
Security Suggestions
To avoid the harms on persons and equipments caused by various
accidents, comply with the following:
Keep the router far away from humid places and heat
Ensure that router is well grounded
Wear anti-static wrists during installation and maintenance
Do not install, move and dismantle routers and modules during power
on to avoid damages on persons and equipments
Do not hot swap interface modules and interface cards of routers
Do not hot swap cables
Connect the interface cables of routers correctly, especially do not
connect phone lines (including ISDN lines) to serial ports
Use Uninterrupted Power Supply (UPS)
Router AC power supply is soft start control switch, which does not cut
the main return circuit of AC power supply. During installation, the
control switch of main return circuit so as to cut down power supply
fast in case of accidents.
Environment Requirements
MP2800 series routers must be used indoor. To guarantee stable use of
routers, the application scenario must meet the following requirements.
If the temperature is too high, the reliability of the router reduces greatly.
The long-time high temperature affects the life and speeds up the aging of
insulation materials.
Measuring points of the working temperature and humidity of MP2800
in the computer room mean the values measured from the floor above
1.5 m and 0.4 m from the front of the rack when there are no
protection boards.
The short-term working condition means less than 48h continuously
and less than 15 days for the annual total.
Extreme adverse working environment means the environment
temperature and humidity when the air-conditioning system in the
computer room fails. Each time the normal work should be recovered
within less than 5h.
Dust-free Environment
Dust is harmful for MP2800 operation. Dust causes static absorption,
which makes the poor contact of metal pieces. Static absorption appears
especially when the temperature and humidity are lower, which affects the
device life and causes communication fault.
Apart from dust, the router has strict requirements for SO2, H2S, NH3,
and Cl2 in the room, because these harmful gases speed up the eroding of
metals and the aging of some components.
Anti-static
MP2800 router takes lots of measures in anti-static, but when the static
exceeds a certain volume, the circuits even the whole monitor are
damaged.
Electromagnetic Environment
Requirements
The various interference sources, no matter from the exterior of devices or
application systems or from the interior, affect the devices through
capacitance coupling, inductance coupling, electromagnetic radiation,
public impedance (including grounding system) and lead (such as power
lines, signal lines and output lines).
Anti-lightning
MP2800 router takes lots of measures in anti-lightning, but when the
lightning exceeds a certain volume, the router may be damaged. To
prevent the damages caused by lightning, do as follows:
Ensure that the protect ground of the chassis is well grounded;
Ensure that the grounding point of AC power supply jack is well
grounded;
Add power lightning arrester to the input end of the power supply, so
as to improve the anti-lightning capability of the power supply;
To improve the anti lightning capability, the MP2800 interface modules
are connected to outdoor signal lines. You can add special anti-
lightning equipment to the input end of signal lines.

System Installation
Preparations
Tools
Before installation, prepare slotted point screwdriver/cross point
screwdriver, level, ruler or tapeline, and anti-static equipment
Checking Cabinet
Maipu devices are designed according to the dimension of 19-inch
standard cabinet, so they can be installed and fixed normally on 19-inch
standard cabinet. Before installation, reserve enough slot room for
installing the device.
Check whether the pallet bracket, floating nut, fixed screw, and baffle
board on the cabinet are complete, which are the standard accessories.
Different cabinets have different dimensions and shapes. Therefore, to add
cabinet accessories, contact the supplier of the cabinet to provide genuine
accessories.
The device must be installed on the pallets or trays (used in pairs) of the
cabinet. Therefore, install the pallets or trays on the cabinet before
installing the device as follows. Use the level to check whether the pallets
or trays are horizontal. If not, adjust the fixed bolt of pallet or tray to
make the pallet or tray horizontal and then fasten it.
Check whether the floating nut for fixing the device is installed in the
square hole of the cabinet column. If not, insert the floating nut to the
square hole according to the position of the pallet or tray.
Installing Router
Install MP2800 router to the cabinet as follows.
Step 1: Wear gloves and anti-static wrist and make the anti-static
reliable grounding
Step 2: Place the device on the fixed platform. Align the installation
hole of the bracket and the corresponding place of the device. Use the
screw to fix the bracket on the two sides of the device.
Step 3: The front of the device faces the operator. Use the hands to
stabilize the device and keep it horizontal. Place the device from the
cabinet front to the pallet or bracket carefully and avoid that the device
hits the cabinet columns. For the heavy or high device, two persons
had better cooperate to handle it.
Step 4: Use two hands to push the device and make the bracket of the
device close to the surface of the cabinet column.
Step 5: Use fixed screw to install the device on the column of the
cabinet.
Step 6: Check whether the device is installed on the bracket fixedly
and straight.
Step 7: Check the space between the installed devices. Choose the
desired cabinet baffle board (it is the standard accessory of the shelf)
to be placed in the space between the devices. Use the screws to fix
baffle board on the shelf.
Installation suggestions:
When installing various devices on a cabinet, consider installing heavy
devices at the bottom of the cabinet or close to the bottom so as to lower
the cabinets center of gravity and improve the stability.
For the detailed connection and configuration, refer to the later chapter.
Configure the router via the terminal as follows:
During the connection, make sure about the ID on the interface to avoid
inserting to other interfaces.
Connect this point and ground it by a thick cable with resistance not bigger
than 4. If the router is installed on 19-inch standard cabinet, the cabinet
should be grounded.
When connecting power supply, use the below suggested power supply
jack or MIM PC power supply jack for reliable grounding. When laying
cables for buildings, the ground wires of the power supply system have
been installed underground. Users should ensure the reliable grounding
and make the corresponding processing.
Ground wire
Step 1: Put the power supply switch to OFF. For AC router, connect
one side of AC power supply cable to the AC power input end of the
back panel of the router and another side to power supply jack (AC:
220V 50Hz/60Hz) and use the clip to lock the cable; for DC router,
connect the power line to the post according to the description of panel
silk screen on the interface. The cross sectional area of the lead of the
selected power line must be larger or equal to 2 mm2.
Step 3: Check whether the power supply indicator of the front panel is
on. If not, repeat step 1 and 2. If the power supply indicator is not on
after repeating the above steps, contact the agent.
Module Installation
Module Installation Steps
MP2800 series router adopts modular structure and provides the capacities
of configuring various interfaces according to users requirements. The
installations of various modules are simple and convenient, as follows.
Access equipment requires signal standard, baud rate and sync clock.
DTE and DCE:
Sync/async serial port accesses external Modem or TA (terminal adapter)
as dialup interface. Sync serial port has two modes - DTE and DCE. The
two direct connected devices work in DTE and DCE respectively.
The device at the DCE side provides the synchronization clock and
specifies the communication rate, while DTE device receives the
synchronization clock and communicate according to the specified baud
rate.
The router usually serves as DTE. For the type of the device connected to
the router, refer to the manual of the device. The following table can also
help you determine the device type.
64000 50
2048000 30
If WAN is DDN line, connect (V.35 cable) to digital Modem V.35 interface.
If WAN is dialup line, connect (V.24 cable) to analog Modem serial.
During the connection, make sure about the ID on the interface to avoid
inserting to other interfaces, which causes the damage of modules and
router host.
For RJ45 interface, use RJ45-RJ45 crossover twisted pair to connect. BNC
and RJ45 interface cannot be used together.
During the connection, make sure about the ID on the interface to avoid
inserting to other interfaces, which causes the damage of modules and
router host.
