Persuasive Writing
Monday
Persuasive Writing - Can you convince me?

What does it mean to persuade?

What techniques to people/companies use to persuade? Use Part a. Persuasive Pitch
examples. Assessment
- List of techniques on board paired with a hand out of

- Terminology is explained and discussed with the class
(multimodal)
(emotive language, rule of three, rhetorical questions etc.)

activities with the new words.
Second part the students will be performing to the class their
persuasive pitch. More time may be needed.

3 Letter to the Editor

Letter to the Editor

- Brainstorming activity
- Who has read or heard of Letters to the Editor? What is
it?

Read an exemplar together.


Show the example of the first stanza annotated by me. Refresh
their memory in literary terms, similar to those used in Persuasive
writing. Introduce the contentions of a letter to the editor/letter,
urgency through emotive language.
Students are to annotate the rest of the letter following the task
sheet. TASK 2:
Letter to the Editor due

(200-300 words)
- List 3 key issues that you struggle with in your day to day
life, think globally. (School uniforms, bullying, chewing
gum at school)
- Pick 1 of the 3 that you feel most passionate about.

- You will then write a letter to the editor on your chosen

critically assess them

- Brainstorming activity
- How do we hear, see, know about the news and what is
happening around the world? What forms of media do we
source the news from?
- When we watch the news what do we aim to get out of TASK 3:
watching it/hearing it? What are the Fundamental rules of News Interview
broadcasting a news story? (who, what, where, why, (oral) (6 min long)

- Read through Pearson English (check students have a
copy) pg. 178. Homework Thursday:

4 The News
Monday TASK 3 CONT
- Letters to the Editor due.
- Spelling Test/marks
Introduce New reporting task with paired assessment sheet.
- Explain the task and ensure they know there must be a
paired transcript.
- Get students to brainstorm ideas in their pairs on what
issue they wish to discuss, the scenario and the format of
news delivery. Use the planning task sheet. Homework Tuesday:
