ST. MARYS TOY SERVICE

10.00am Sunday 3rd December
Last year, our choir sang at St. Marys Toy Service
and the church enjoyed it so much that theyve
invited us back again this year. Miss Hughes will
be looking at the arrangements over the next few
weeks.
At the service toys will be collected for distribution
by the Salvation Army, and the puppet group
Reach Up, Reach Out will be performing.
Everyone is welcome to attend the service on
3rd December at 10.00am.

Dont forget that our Inter House Hockey and

Rugby Tournaments are taking place this
Saturday and Year 5 - 8 children should come to
school for 9.00am. I wish all those taking part the
best of luck and welcome any parents who would
like to come along to watch.

PSHEE IN YEARS 3 & 6
Our PSHEE focus this week was maintaining
mental, physical and emotional health and well
being. In our Form Time on Tuesday, Year 3 and
Year 6 children met together to chat about things
we are good at and things we need to improve
upon. The children were very honest talking to
each other and all of them identified strengths
ranging from friendliness, reading, rugby or maths,
and then thought carefully about an area that they
needed to work on. Again there were a variety
of subjects including time keeping, organisation,
handwriting and times tables.
Mrs Glanville and Mrs Beach also thought about
the things that they need to work hard to improve!

YEAR 8s FIELDWORK WEEK IN STACKPOLE, PEMBROKESHIRE
Our Year 8s enjoyed a week of hard work as well as a range of activities during their week away in
West Wales. The main focus of their week was a study of the sand dunes at Freshwater West. They
looked at the formation and development of the dune system, collecting data on the slope angle, the
number of plant species, and looking at the proportions of Marram Grass, Bare Ground and other
plant species at each station. We also looked at the role of Marram Grass in the dune ecosystem.
The dune at the North end of the bay was used in the recent Harry Potter film!

We also undertook many activities during the week. The activities included a long coastal walk, a night
line, completing the John Muir Award, visiting St.Govans Chapel, coasteering around Barafundle
Bay, going to Pembroke Castle, and mountain biking around the beautiful Stackpole Estate.
The enquiry contributes to 20% of their CE mark in their final geography exam. The pupils worked
hard during the week, collecting data, planning their study, and beginning their enquiry and research.
Year 8 were a pleasure to take to Pembrokeshire and my thanks to Mr Cann and Miss Palmer for
their invaluable contribution.
