Our Speciality

The Health visiting service leads and delivers the Healthy Child Programme for 0-5 years. The
key mandated elements include: Antenatal Contact, New-Birth Visit, 6-8 Week Review, 8-12
Month Review and 2-2.5 Year Review. Health Visitors are public health nurses, our priority is
to improve and protect health of the population rather than treating individual patients. We
work collaboratively in a skill-mix team which include staff nurses, child development
workers, health visitor assistants and administrators. We take action to promote healthy
lifestyles, prevent diseases, protect and improve general health through empowerment of
people to take control of their health.

Guys and St Thomas NHS Foundation Trust provide high standard of care to people who live
in Lambeth and Southwark Councils. Lambeth and Southwark is recognised as an area with
high level of deprivation as a result of poverty and social exclusion. According to Office of
National Statistic (ONS), people who live in Lambeth and Southwark generally experience
poorer health, higher incidence of smoking, substance misuse, increased alcohol drinkers and
high rate of teenage pregnancy. Lambeth and Southwark population is ethnically diverse with
tendency of high mobility from one address to another, from one borough to another; this
could be considered to be a high vulnerability factor. The high indication of health needs in
Lambeth and Southwark has called for all professionals to work together with other agencies
and voluntary organisations to ensure that high quality care is provided as needed at all times.

Since 1st April 2011, both Lambeth and Southwark merged with Guy's and St Thomas NHS
Foundation Trust; the provider of community services. This means that NHS staff can work
together to provide more seamless care from acute to the members of our community. Guys
and St Thomas Community Health Services Headquarters is at 160 Tooley Street. However,
we have many health centres and GP practices widely spread all over the two boroughs where
health visiting teams are based. Below, you will find contact details of staff members and
different locations that health visiting teams are based.
