Expulsion Dropout Fuses
Expulsion Dropout Fuses Series V are the product of
systematic development and long standing experience.
The V series Expulsion Dropout Fuses comply with AS
1033.1-1990. IEC Publication 282-2, 1970 and
ANSI/NEMA specifications.
Testing for certification to AS 1033.1-1990 is part of an
ongoing development programme.
CONSTRUCTION:
Fuse Carrier
The fuse carrier is made of strong fibreglass filament
wound tube with a special ultra violet resistant external
coating. An inner liner of bone fibre is used as ablative
material for arc quenching.
The fuse carrier is self aligning into a spring loaded top
socket contact. This socket also prevents the closure of
the fuse without the top cap. The trunion design uses a
pressure die casting made from high tensile leaded
brass. Die casting requires precision tooling and
produces a casting of superior finish and close tolerance.
Coupled with this high precision, the solid design
ensures the hinge cannot distort even if closing and
opening of the carrier with a stick operated at an angle
to the fuse mount.
The fuse tube is clearly marked with the year of
manufacture and easily identifies that the fuse has blown
- even at night - by using a reflective tape.
Contacts
The top contact assembly and the bottom
hinge are assembled to the insulator in a jig
so that misalignment cannot occur.
All the main current carrying parts are silver
plated with a minimum of 12 microns
ensuring minimum electrical resistance even
after many closing and opening operations.
The hinged contacts have parallel spring
loaded current carrying parts. All contacts
have a wiping action.
Terminal Palms
The assembly is fitted with bright tin plated
copper terminal palms fitted stainless steel
pressure pad, stud, nut and washer. The
terminal pads will accept copper or
aluminium terminal lugs or stranded
conductors for 16sqmm to 193spmm cross
section area.
Insulator
The insulator is designed to reduce the
possibility of flashover due to birds or
animal life without the use of plastic or
rubber coverings which may cause radio
interference or need regular replacement.
The insulator is suitable for use in adverse
environments (pollution, corrosion) and
various creepage lengths are available. The
insulator colour is Munsell Grey for good
environmental appearance.
