OPINION

SHASTRA
This debate tests the participants versatility in terms of language and content.
This is a 2 round event, with singular representation.

ROUND 1
Rules
Topics will be given at least 5 days prior to the event.
The individual will first present his/her arguments in favour of the topic for 1 minute in
English and subsequently, he/she will speak against the topic for 1 minute. The
participant has the choice of speaking English or Hindi or any regional language for the
Against part of the debate only.
Following that the floor will be open for a QnA session with the other individuals. A
maximum of 2 questions can be asked of a speaker and the speaker will be awarded full
marks in QnA part if no questions are asked. No direct arguments are encouraged.
Since it is a prepared debate, participants will be penalized if they resort to reading out
from a script.
The decision of the judges shall be final and binding.
Top Individuals will move to Round 2.

ROUND 2
Rules
This is a solution based round where teams will propose solutions to certain issues and their
merits and demerits will be debated upon.
Topics will be given after Round 1.
The individual will first speak in favour of the topic for 2 minutes and then he/she will
speak against the topic for 2 minutes.
The individual will speak For the topic in English but will have to switch to Hindi/local
language when speaking Against the topic.
Following that the floor will be open for a QnA session with the other individuals. A
maximum of 2 questions can be asked of a speaker and the speaker will be awarded full
marks in QnA part if no questions are asked. No direct arguments are encouraged.
Since it is a prepared debate, participants will be penalized if they resort to reading out
from a script.

1. Linguistic ability
2. Content of speech
3. Oratory skills
4. Ability to answer questions
