Geothermal Engineering Training

ITB Geothermal Master Program in collaboration with PT. GADA ENERGI offers various geothermal
trainings to meet man power needs for supporting geothermal exploration, development and
utilization in Indonesia. The main emphasis of the program is to provide the participants with
sufficient understanding on technical and practical aspects of geological, geochemical and
geophysical exploration, reservoir engineering, well testing, production engineering, and monitoring
technique.

TRAINING LIST:
A. Geology Exploration for Geothermal
Duration: 5 (Five) Days
Course Content:
The aim of the course is to give an understanding of the geothermal system, geological methods and
their application to identify a geothermal area, including its surface manifestation, within a volcanic
area. Another main subject of this course is to understand various minerals commonly occurring in
geothermal system, its type of alteration and how to use it to understand the behavior of reservoir.
Furthermore, it gives knowledge about geothermal system, geology for geothermal exploration,
geological structure in geothermal field, geomorfology study, stratigraphy study, volcanology and
volcano-stratigraphy, hydrogeological study, hydrothermal alteration, surface manifestations,
geological and structural mapping in geothermal, alteration and manifestation mapping in
geothermal, estimation of geothermal resource based on natural heat loss, and case study: geology
for geothermal exploration, and well targeting.
Instructors:
1. Dr. Ir. Prihadi Soemintadireja
2. Dr. Suryantini

B. Geochemical Exploration for Geothermal

Duration: 5 (Five) Days
Course Content:
This course covers all aspects of chemistry at geothermal fluid. It explains type, composition, origin
and distribution of the fluids; and the effects of boiling, mixing and condensation to the composition
of water. How to understand the reservoir condition is also given, followed by the behaviors of gas
and stable isotope in geothermal systems. At last the course will point out the monitoring of
production wells, including scaling formation and corrosively in production pipes, and
environmental aspects. Furthermore, it gives knowledge about geochemistry for geothermal
exploration, geothermal fluid: origin & distribution, chemical analysis of geothermal fluid,
characteristic of geothermal fluid: pH, salinity & ion balance, process occurring in geothermal fluid:
boiling, mixing & condensation, estimation of reservoir fluid characteristics, geothermal gas, stable
isotope in geothermal, geothermometer, geochemical survey for geothermal exploration, and case
study: geochemistry for geothermal exploration.

C. Geophysical Exploration for Geothermal

Duration: 5 (Five) Days
Course Content:
This course covers both static and dynamic geophysical method commonly applied for geothermal
exploration in order to reveal the subsurface condition. The method includes gravity and magnetic,
geo-electrical, magnetotelluric (MT), transient electromagnetic (TEM) and micro-earthquake (MEQ)
methods. Some applications are given for discussion. Furthermore, it gives knowledge about
geothermal system and exploration, overview of geophysics for geothermal exploration, gravity
