Ishida Shouya ( , Ishida Shya) is a character introduced in Koe no Katachi.

He is the main,
male protagonist of the series.
Ishida has lived a 'lone wolf' life after being blamed for the sole bullying of Nishimiya Shouko during
elementary school. Six years later after meeting Nishimiya again and befriending her, he starts to
gather new friends together, along with old ones he had during middle school. Despite the changes in
his life, Ishida still struggles to make up for what he did in the past.
Nishimiya Shouko ( , Nishimiya Shko) is a character introduced in Koe no Katachi. She is
the female protagonist of the series.

While Shouko may not be completely deaf (given the hearing aids she possesses in both ears), her
hearing loss is drastic enough to the point that she can be considered clinically deaf. Despite this, it
has been shown that though she cannot clearly understand individual words, she can hear various
pitches of tones in the voices of other people. Also as stated in Chapter 21, Nishimiya is observed to
only wear one hearing aid. This may be a repercussion of Ishida's act of pulling out her other hearing
aid, and permanently damaging her ear in Chapter 1

Yuzuru Nishimiya ( , Nishimiya Yuzuru) is a character introduced in Koe no Katachi. She is

the younger sister of Nishimiya Shouko. She is a third year middle school student but rarely attends.

Yuzuru is Shouko's companion with hardships against the bullies or with her mother's forceful
decision to Shouko. It seems she doesn't have a good relationship with her mother but bonds well
with her grandmother. She has a hobby of taking pictures of the dead, with the objective of showing
her sister how horrible death is, in order to encourage her sister to not kill herself

Ueno Naoka ( , Ueno Naoka) is a character in the Koe no Katachi series. Ueno is a rather
blunt and straightforward person, being rude and frank to people she dislikes, especially to Nishimiya.
Ueno, being the "traditional tsundere", has been shown to be somewhat dull and insensitive to many
of the characters, although she admits to this. She is also known to be somewhat rash with her
decisions, and will resort to violence rather quickly, as shown in chapter 44, when Ueno assaults
Shouko after her attempted suicide, which resulted in injuring Ishida

Nagatsuka Tomohiro ( , Nagatsuka Tomohiro) is a supporting character in Koe no Katachi.

He is the first person that talks to Ishida as an equal, and is quick to call him a best friend. Currently,
he is making a movie with him.

Kawai Miki ( , Kawai Miki) is a supporting character in the Koe no Katachi series. She is also
the class representative in Ishida's class. Kawai acts as a responsible girl, usually taking the role of a
leader whether it be in class or on a small trip with friends. She also acts kind and polite when helping
her classmates. However, at times when she is pushed, she can act rude and say mean comments
about people. She is the only one who is able to tell Ueno off when she is going too far.
PLOT:
Algo as como Bart Simpson.

sobretodo sensible. Llevate unos carilinas al cine.

The film tells the life of Shoya Ishida, from primary to present, when he is in his senior year of
high school. Being small, Shoya is a brabucn, but also is sensible and insecure. Something like
Bart Simpson. Her passing through elementary school is the story of a bully who becomes a
victim after picking up Shoko Nishimiya, a deaf girl who has a very bad time because of the
constant harassment of Shoya and his companions. When the girl changes school due to
constant abuse, everyone charges against Shoya, who happens to be the new abused, victim of
his negligent companions who do not accept that they also mistreated Nishimiya.
Koe no Katachi is not patronizing the repentant abuser and that makes it a credible film. Human
relationships are not simple and wounds sometimes never close if you do not work to do it.
"Forgiveness" is only a word if your actions do not reflect repentance and the film portrays that
hypocrisy to perfection. Shoya, now almost an adult, can not overcome what he did to Nishimiya
and the level of marginalization that gives the Japanese society does not help either. He
considers himself to commit suicide, but he repents and that is when he begins his journey to
redemption and a new life. All I told you is just the first quarter of footage, what's important is
what comes next.
Redemption is a strong word, almost epic. The truth is that the story of the film comes from the
everyday and it is very easy to empathize with what happens. It is a cataract of emotions for the
viewer, who knows characters who seek to fit in some way in the world and whose common
point is to meet Nishimiya. It is a story about friendship above all, but also about forgiveness,
fear of being alone and lack of self-esteem.
There are some dramatic situations that are difficult for us Westerners to understand. The idea
of bullying that we have is the American idea. Japanese society handles very different concepts
of privacy, honor and affection. There are scenes that become unlikely to us because we believe
that it is impossible for someone to react like this. But it is enough to situate ourselves in Japan
to understand the isolation and apathy that is handled by that side of the world and as that
makes it more difficult to find forgiveness and talk about what it feels like.
Most of the characters are more than good, especially the Shoya - Shoko duo, who have a
chemistry that fills us with tenderness. There are some that almost fancy of filling and there is a
particular personage, Ueno, that, besides insufrible, until it seems caricatured and implausible.
There is a scene that loses all the impact by its intrusion and that would have made sense if Koe
no Katachi was a comedy, which clearly is not.
The animation manages an incredible level, from the gestures of personages and the scenes,
until the illumination and colors. The soundtrack is maudlin, as the genre asks, and although
there are no highlights for listening after the viewing, it accompanies the moments well and gets
a particular impact in the saddest moments. The interesting thing is that the script does not only
speak about the lack of hearing at the physical level. It also reflects on how it is that, even if we
have all our abilities in perfect order, we do not give ourselves the time or interest to listen to
someone ... to really do it.
When meeting with his friends we see something that, personally I waited for a long time, the
fall of the 'X' this moment is very emotional (beyond that we do not understand why they are
friends of Kawai) since we can see like everyone (I am not sure that all) get to know the true
Ishida and accept it and not only that, the same can be accepted, now you can finally see people
face to face.
Koe no Katachi portrays how complicated human relationships are in the hardest stage of life -
adolescence. As Westerners, there are some moments that baffle us, but in general, it is a movie
that sticks deep and gives us a different point of view than we are accustomed to when we talk
about bullying and suicide. It is warm, funny and above all sensible. Take some carilinas to the
movies.
