Three escape before court appearance in Sasolburg

Bloemfontein - Three suspects who escaped from the holding cells of the Sasolburg Magistrate's Court
yesterday are still on the run.
Mpho Mokoena, Ben Motaung, and Bongani Tshabalala allegedly escaped at around 13:00 before they
could appear separately in court later in the afternoon after lunch. Police spokesperson, Thandi Mbambo,
says police have launched a manhunt for the escapees who were dressed as civilians. According to her,
they were recently arrested individually in connection with separate crimes. She could not confirm if the
escapees are known to each other.
The 21-year-old Mokoena was arrested for robbery with a firearm. Motaung, who is 26 years old, was
charged with common robbery, and the 24-year-old Tshabalala, who are from Zamdela, had to appear in
connection with a charge of shoplifting.
Mbambo says an investigation into the circumstances surrounding the suspects escape is ongoing and
according to the Zamdela Cluster Commander, PholenyaneMorake, those who may have been found negligent with regards to the escape will be dealt with
accordingly.
