First, what is alienation? According to Marx, it is the separation of things that are naturally
belong together. It is an issue of relativity. We see things based on our own perspective, with our
own way. If we see something different, weird and unfamiliar, we assume it as alienating entity.
Alienating entity are what we seen as abnormal and different. Alienation can occur in everything.
It manifest itself physically, mentally, psychologically, emotionally, culturally, socially etc. that
Alienation may also manifest itself as beneficial or undesirable. Beneficial traits, from the
word itself are those alienating traits, which have no harmful impacts to those it alienates from and
to its fellow alienating entities. A notable example for this would be seedless watermelons. Normal
consumers who do not like the inconvenience of ingesting seeds while consuming the juicy flesh
of the watermelon. On the other hand, there are also undesirable traits. These traits may come
harmful. It is viewed as unacceptable by the norms. An example of these traits can be found with
children. Bullies are those people whose own behavior alienates from other children. They exhibit
Karl Marx used workers and production for us to understand the concept. Alienation is
something that people make things that is not belong to them. Marx try to explain the alienation
that separate the workers from the work itself. He also defines it the way people work with other
people whether we like it or not. He also defines it the way we isolate ourselves from other species.
That with our work, it became a habit. That one day we would feel that we are like a robot, which
is lifeless. He defined it the way that we have loss our control. He was explaining it as if you have
suddenly put into a situation of having a social life, which is new to him. It will not be easy for
that person to adjust but it is not impossible for him to embrace change. That time comes that he
will feel the sense of familiarity. It may be against that, persons will to adjust at first but it is not
Alienation as mentioned that it is isolating oneself from others. Let us take our opinions on
the other point of view. That you were the one considered in alienation. What would be your
feelings or point of view in the world where you feel you are different from everyone? It would be
beneficial to be unique. Would you embrace change to be one of them? Or stay as an alien entity
to them? How would you react with the feeling of not belonging to the world? Todays society
demands to have conformity to something that is usual, typical and required with the standard.
Alienism is like isolating some things just because we feel that is not connected with the
values, norms and culture of our community. It is common to all of us that we close our mind when
seeing something that is not familiar with us. It pushes our consciousness to certain things.
Moreover, to the examples mentioned above. There is change. Change is inevitable which means
we cannot avoid it. Alienation can leads us to new invention or discovery but it can also leads us
to possible disappointments.
As conclusion to all things that are mentioned, alienation have something to do with
adjustments, with change. There are things that are customary to us like eating, drinking, sleeping.
These things are eventually same with all the living things in this world (humans and animals).
Alienation provides a detailed explanation that shows the result when people are included in the
situations which supposed to be they were not part of. It explains how will it be, how will it
Marx viewed alienation is like what society viewed world as of today. That people will be
contented if they are doing what others do. To have education, to have contact with other people.
He made us believe that a person must be independent with what they possess. I guess the concept
have no basis of scientific but it will still be believe and continue to exist while it is part of the
