"HEALTH IS WEALTH"
No one can deny the fact that healthy man live happily. Money or wealth
cannot give a person all the happiness of life as health can. A person may
have wealth, cars, servants at his service and a big house to life in cannot
enjoy all these blessings without a good health. Where as a person with small
income, with no servant for work and small house to live in but a healthy body enjoy a fuller
life in the world.
For good health and for looking younger and living longer one must follow few good
principles of life. To remain healthy we should eat balance diet. Take little exercise every
day. Let not worries crowd our mind and shake our nervous system. We should not allow ill
thoughts bring agony to our mind. We should live in clear and neat surrounding. We must
become early risers and never go to bed very late.
Good health is a precious thing and every step must be taken to guard it. Early to bed early to
rise makes all men healthy, wealthy and wise

"An Apple a Day is Not Enough" - a Poem by Taylor Mali

An apple a day is not enough.
Don't let me start preaching,
But shouldn't the children of the country that's the wealthiest,
Also be the children of the country that's the healthiest?

That makes sense, you'd think that would be true,

I know I would. I'm just saying. Wouldn't you?
But that's not the case with our kids these days.
Kids' health is declining in all kinds of ways.

We need to improve it. We can and we will.

But it starts with thinking of health as a skill.
A 21st century skill that you practice.
Practice makes perfect.
The unhealthy can't hack this.

We've got to teach our kids by example every day,

And it's tough because people stop listening when they think they know what you're going to say.
Like, drink more water.
Eat more vegetables (especially the dark leafy green ones).
Eat less sugar.
Don't drink soda (especially the sugary caffeine ones).
Stop watching TV. Go play outside. Go for a run, or a walk, or a bike ride.
Get your heart rate up every day of the week.
Chew your food more, eat slower, meditate, sit still, get your heart rate lower.

Set yourself a health goal. It doesn't have to be wild.

It takes a lot of things to raise a healthy child.
And healthy kids do better in school.
They have better jobs. They lead better lives.
They marry healthier husbands and healthier wives.

Good health is a skill and teachers need to teach it.

Now you've got me preaching so I might as well preach it.
Health is not a one-semester class you take in middle school.
It should be a part of every subject, not the exception but the rule.

Learn about good health in math, in English, and in social studies.

Work on a project about nutrition in science with your buddies.
And parents need to be involved too. Teachers can't do this alone.
Good health starts at home.

We need to own this issue because the stakes are high.
What does it matter if we try to increase our scores in math and reading,
If scores are dying before their time because they got fatter and fatter.
Healthy students make wealthy earners not to mention better learners.

The choices you make every day have the biggest impact in the biggest of ways.
Check it: why else would they say -- an apple a day keeps the doctor away.
But new solutions to old problems: that's the American way!
Who cares about keeping the water clean and pure?
There isn't a problem if they can't sell you the cure.

Don't keep looking for new technology to be your medical savior.

Of course it's easier to be saved by a miracle than it is to change your behavior.
So we need to value health education the way we value math and reading.
We can't keep feeding our children the same old lessons like junk food full of saturated fat, and sugar and
chemicals. We can do better than that.

We can and we will and that's the truth.

Because the future... the future belongs to the healthy youth. Amen.

AIDS.- THE EPIDEMIC OF FEAR
(PASSIVE VOICE.- REINFORCMENT)
AIDS was first diagnosed in 1981; Since it was a new disease little was known about it and many
people were dying of it. As a result, lots of myths and misconceptions were created and spread quickly,
which caused another epidemic besides AIDS, and that was the Epidemic of FEAR.
The Mass Media also helped spread wrong ideas about AIDS. This is what they told me then: (Rewrite what
you were told then).-
AIDS
AIDS spreads through the air.
AIDS is a gays disease.
You may get AIDS next to someone at work, at
school on a bus or elsewhere if that person is
infected
You may get infected touching or shaking
hands.
One may get AIDS by sharing food, plates,
cups or utensils.
If you receive a blood transfusion
you risk being infected.
AIDS symptoms are easily perceived.
If a mosquito bites you, it could infect you with
AIDS.
All kind of drugs taking was a serious risk of
getting AIDS.
There were babies who got the HIV, passed to
them by their mother through breast-feeding.
Having the HIV always implies developing
AIDS.
A simple blood test right after the sexual
intercourse or intravenous drug use can detect the
HIV.

I was told that AIDS spreads through the air.

THE LYRICS
THE LAST SONG, BY ELTON JOHN

Yesterday you came to lift me up

As light as straw and brittle as a bird
Today I weigh less than a shadow on the wall
Just one more whisper of a voice unheard
Tomorrow leave the windows open
As fear grows please hold me in your arms
Won't you help me if you can to shake this anger
I need your gentle hands to keep me calm

CHORUS
`Cause I never thought I'd lose
I only thought I'd win
I never dreamed I'd feel
This fire beneath my skin
I can't believe you love me
I never thought you'd come
I guess I misjudged love
Between a father and his son

Things we never said come together

The hidden truth no longer haunting me
Tonight we touched on the things that were never spoken
That kind of understanding sets me free

CHORUS

MEN AND SMOKING. FICTIONS AND FACTS.
MOST GUYS SMOKE
No, they dont! The majority of UK men alive today have never smoked. Many others are ex-smokers.
Fifty years ago 3 out of 4 men smoked. Today just over 1 in every 4 men smokes.

WHATS ALL THE FUSS ABOUT? MY GRANDFATHER SMOKED 30 A DAY UNTIL HE WAS
84
He was lucky! Smoking kills one in two of its users and half of these will die before their time, many in
middle age and younger. Every year, over 80,000 UK men die from diseases caused by smoking.

IM A YOUNG HEALTHY BLOKE AND I ONLY SMOKE ABOUT 15 A DAY. WHERES THE
HARM?
15 cigarettes a day are too many! Every puff of tobacco smoke gives you a very nasty cocktail of over 4000
chemicals including tar (as in roads), nicotine, carbon monoxide (as in exhaust fumes), ammonia (floor
cleaner), arsenic (rat poison), formaldehyde (preserving fluid) and butane (lighter fuel). 60 of these
chemicals are known to cause cancer. Cancer of the lungs, throat, mouth, pancreas, kidneys and bladder are
all caused by smoking and there is an increased risk of other cancers too including cancer of the penis!
Nicotine is the addictive drug in tobacco. It increases your heart rate, constricts the blood vessels and puts
up your blood pressure.
Tar coats your lungs like it does the roads and it damages the hairs that clean the lungs and it inflames the
small air sacs. The mucus builds up and results in the smokers cough. Eventually it causes bronchitis and
emphysema.
Carbon monoxide robs your brain, heart and muscles of oxygen. Carbon monoxide combines with
nicotine to thicken the blood. This can cause heart attacks and strokes, blood clots in the limbs and
amputation. Three out of four deaths from heart attacks in younger men are due to smoking.

I KEEP FIT AND PLAY SPORT SO SMOKING DOESNT AFFECT ME

When did you last see a top athlete, footballer or rugby player smoking? Most probably never, as most
sportsmen care about health and fitness. If you smoke you are less likely to take part in sport and keeping
fit. If you are sporty, your endurance for physical activity is seriously reduced. One study showed that on
average a 20-year-old smoker has a fitness level of a non-smoker aged about 35.

I 'VE GOT A REALLY STRESSFUL JOB. SMOKING HELPS ME RELAX

The trouble is - smoking doesnt actually help you relax. It does the opposite! Smoking increases the stress
level of the body because it raises the blood pressure and heart rate. But you may feel as though smoking
reduces stress because it provides time out to light up and smoke and it temporarily relieves nicotine
withdrawal.
If you stop smoking you will be calmer and more relaxed than you are as a smoker. But youll need to find
other ways of taking time out and relaxing. Try exercise, reading, a bath, deep breaths, listening to music
whatever takes your mind off smoking.

MY PARTNER IS PREGNANT. I WANT HER TO QUIT BUT I DONT NEED TO

Protecting the unborn baby from tobacco smoke is probably the best thing both do to give the baby a
healthy start in life. If the mother smokes the baby will be affected by the harmful chemicals in tobacco
smoke. This increases the risk of miscarriage, still birth and low birth weight
You may not _consider that your smoking is important too. But your unborn baby is also at risk if the
mother is exposed to the chemicals in second-hand smoke from your cigarettes.

IM FIFTY TWO AND IVE SMOKED SINCE I WAS TWELVE . THE DAMAGE HAS BEEN DONE
Its never too late to stop smoking! The benefits of stopping smoking are almost immediate at any age.
Within just 20 minutes after stopping smoking your blood pressure and heart rate return to a level close to
normal. Within 8 hours the level of carbon monoxide in your blood is halved and after 24 hours the oxygen
levels return to normal.

10
IES GALILEO GALILEI PROJECTS
AFTER 2 WEEKS your chance of a heart attack decreases and your circulation improves. Your energy
levels and concentration improve. Your breathing improves.
BY 3 MONTHS your taste and smell will improve and the smoker's cough will go. At one year the risk of
a heart attack is cut to half. And the longer you stay off cigarettes , the lower the risk of lung cancer, heart
disease and lung damage. .
However, .
Irreversible Health Effects of Smoking: smoking and health problems can be long-lasting. It has been
shown that smoking for as little as 5 years can lead to some irreversible health effects.
Some permanent health effects can be to the lungs, heart, eyes, throat, urinary tract, digestive organs, bones,
joints, and skin.
This is not to discourage people from quitting smoking. It has also been shown that over time many health
effects are reversed or improved greatly by stopping smoking
http://www.answer-my-health-question.info/smoking-and-health-problems.html

STOPPING SMOKING IS IMPOSSIBLE!

Its not easy but 11 million ex-smokers in the UK prove it is possible. Most people make several quit
attempts
before they finally succeed so dont give up .
When you stop, stop completely, not even a puff. Change your routines. Remind yourself of your reasons to
quit. Get as much help and support as possible.
Practise the 4Ds:
1.- Delay until the cravings pass
2.- Drink plenty of water, sip slowly .
3.- Distract yourself : do something else to take your mind off smoking.
4.- Deep breathe: take long slow breaths and try to relax.

LA SALUD
INTRODUCTION

CONCLUSION
Terminar esta redaccin diciendo que desgraciadamente, pensamos que la salud va a durar para siempre y
no nos damos cuenta qu afortunados somos hasta que ya no podemos disfrutar de una vida sana.
