Asia. This book is the first attempt to analyze in a broad sense the capital elements
towards an Islamic identity in the Philippine islands, in order to have a synopsis
that can reconcile Philippine Islam within the history of Islamic civilization

of Arts degree in Islamic Studies (2008) from the University of the Philippines. In
2004 and 2008, he won the Ibn al-Abbar Research Award for the project Romanos Isaac
Filipins del Regne de Valncia, a study and translation of Philippine romances about Donoso
the kingdom of Valencia. He edited theanthology More Hispanic than We Admit:
Insights into Philippine Cultural History (2008) and Jess Balmoris novel Los
pjaros de fuego (2010). At present, he is the Spanish editor of the online digital Edited by Isaac Donoso
library Filipiniana.net, and is finishing his doctorate degree at the University of
Alicante with a thesis on the Islamization of the Philippine archipelago.
