COURSE DESCRIPTION
This course covers the strategy, tactics and processes needed for successful management of a portfolio of
projects. It outlines a road map to project management improvement, and provides a detailed description of the
roles, functions and the processes for establishing and managing a Project Management Office, PMO.

COURSE OBJECTIVE
To expose the students to the concept of Project Management Office (PMO), its roles, functions,
responsibilities and characteristics
To help them understand the importance of PMO in managing multiple projects and keeping projects align
with organizational strategic goal.
To teach students regarding implementation of PMO and guide them in developing & practically
implementing PMO (in a selected organization) as a semester project.
To instill the attitude of not only tackling projects as a project manager but also leading the implementation
of Project management standards and procedures within the organization as a PMO Manager.

After having completed this course successfully, participants will be able to:

1. Implement Project Management Office (PMO) in an organization according to its need, culture and
environment.
2. As PMO Manager, manage the Project Management Office (PMO) within an organization.
3. Understand and resolve issues related to implementation and management of Project Management
Office (PMO)
4. The processes, templates and procedures deployed by PMO in portfolio and program management.
5. Understand the stage wise competency development of PMO
6. Link the portfolio/program to organizational strategy, strategic resource selection

LEARNING METHODOLOGY
Mixed instructional methods shall be put in practice for comprehensive learning of students. It includes
pedagogy and andragogical techniques of mind stimulation of the learners. For this purpose students

in discussions, presentations, group activities and reference studies. Students shall be
distributed into groups for mutual discussions; learn how to share works, prepare team based solution to
problems and develop arguments for presentation cum thesis. Developing arguments shall be taken as
core activities of the course on multiple topics for conclusive literature reviews.

Details of Project and Project Report

Guidelines for the Project Report:

1. Project team will select organization with the consent of the teacher.
2. THREE - FOUR persons are allowed as a team to work on a project report.
3. Properly binded PMO report along with the CD to be submitted before the last class of the
session.

Section A
4. Project team will briefly describe the culture of the organization (Matrix, functional or
projectized).
5. Describe issues faced by the selected organization in the absence of the PMO or highlight
issues if PMO exists.
6. Describe how PMO implementation will benefit the selected organization.

Section B
7. Identify steps for the establishment of the PMO (in the selected organization).
8. Highlight the challenges faced during the implementation of PMO.
9. If PMO exists identify areas of improvement along with the implementation strategy.

Section C
10. Explain how PMO (EPM) implementation will help address the issues highlighted in Section
A.
11. Implement PMO (EPM) Primavera or any other tool for the selected organization.
12. Select the workflow of PMO (EPM) Primavera or any other tool for the selected
organization.

Section D
13. Write Charter, PMP and Scope Documents as per the template shared.
14. Work Break down Structure (WBS) to attach in the report.
15. Attach following Project Reports along with GANTT Chart and WBS in the annexures
section of the report.
