This lesson will be integrated in a unit about the classification of animals. Prior to this lesson, students will
have learned the difference between vertebrates and invertebrates and the different types of invertebrates.
The teacher will introduce the topic, Jane Goodall using a BrainPOP video. The teacher will ask the students to
write down two interesting facts that the students would like to research further on. Students will be grouped
into groups based on similarities of what they wrote down.
Next, students will begin research about the two facts that they found. Students will use BrainPOP to begin
their research, and continue with other search engines and books. Students will create a slide and post it on a
collaborating class PowerPoint. This PowerPoint will be turned into a class All About Jane Goodall
biography. Learning will be informally assessed by the teacher walking around and scaffolding the students as
the work on their research and slides. Feedback will be provided as students write and create their slides for
the biography. Students will be required to cite their sources that are used and to make sure that their
information is accurate.
