MECHANICS FOR GRAPHIC STORY

Overview:
Graphic Story or Graphic Novel is a form of comic strip illustration. However, unlike comic strips in
newspapers, it contains a long storyboard, not so much humorous and has a more complicated plot.
Actions are much more detailed and panel contents are much more dramatic.
Materials to be used:
1 pc. 1/4 illustration board, charcoal or lead pencil,
ink pen and ruler
Mechanics:
1. The lecturer is going to give a portion of a particular story as a basis of the graphical story. Read the
excerpt and create a storyboard for it.
2. Divide the 1/4 illustration board into two parts, landscaped, vertical.
3. Illustrate your story in your panels (note: you can create different kinds of panels like the one below).
4. (Optional) Ink your illustrations.

MECHANICS FOR EDITORIAL CARTOONING


Materials:
1/4 illustration board, charcoal or lead pencil
Mechanics:
1. The lecturer may give any of the following: a news article, an editorial article or simply a general topic
or issue. Read the article and choose your stand.
2. Draw in landscape.
3. Present a maximum of three elements only.
4. The cartoon should portray a point of struggle.
5. Label elements only when necessary.
6. Do not ink your work.
DIGITAL PHOTOGRAPHY FOR MAGAZINE COVER
(English and Filipino category)
Overview
Digital photography is the art and science of producing and manipulating digital photographs. These
photographs are represented as bit maps which can be produced in a number of ways, such as:
Directly with a digital camera;
By capturing a frame from a video; and,
By scanning a conventional photograph.
Mechanics
This contest is open to all registered 9th SPAM Convention participants. Each school shall register one
contestant only per level and per category (English/Filipino) for this contest in advance. Pre-registration is
required and the orientation will be before the opening ceremony.
Photographs should be in digital format, such as JPEG or PDF.
All digital files must be 300 dpi, in JPEG or JPG format, and at least 1,600 pixels on one side (whether
image is vertical or horizontal).
The submitted image is a single work of original material created and taken solely by the participant.
Photographs to be submitted should have no watermark.
The language of the caption entails if the entry is in Filipino or in English category.

Creativity and Originality -- 25%
Visual Impact -- 20%
