My Dear Eastern Kentucky Friends and Colleagues,

Greetings in the Name of the Lord.

Fall is a beautiful time to see Gods handiwork in nature. Fall is also a time for the church to celebrate
through Homecoming, Sports emphasis, Revival/renewal, sermon series, and planning for Thanksgiving and
Advent. It is also a time to celebrate Pastor Appreciation. Please take time during October to recognize
your pastor(s). We are blessed to have the best pastors around on the Eastern Kentucky District. Lets show
them they are loved.

The District Leadership Christmas Luncheon is just around the corner. December 2, 2017 at Blue Licks
State Park. Please begin emailing or calling in your reservation now. The Annual Christmas Luncheon is
for all Ministers (Lead/Associate) and Spouses, Retired Ministers and Spouses, District Advisory Board and
Spouses, and Department Heads and Spouses.

News and Important Dates:

Just Water Retreat - This past weekend our district NYI came together for an outstanding retreat in
Corbin. They raised funds to help build a well. Thanks to our District NMI for a continued partner-
ship with our NYI. We appreciate the leadership of Brad Salyers who has directed the retreat for
three years.
Team Day September 30th - We celebrated a great day together in Lexington. Thanks to each of our
churches who were involved. We appreciate the leadership of Rev. Lyle Hamilton and the SDMI
Council. Make this event a must for next year.
There is a DCPI District event planned for January 19-21, 2017.
Please plan to attend DCPI this January. There are scholarships available if finances are an issue. Make
an effort to have several lay people from your church come with you. We are including an additional
training called New Church Development (NCD). This track emphasizes church health for our
churches and gives guidance for a clear track to improving the spiritual health of our churches. The
General Church of the Nazarene is sending additional trainers for the event.
Please keep in mind the following events that are taking place in the next couple of months:
Oct 20-22 District Womens Retreat
Nov 2-3 MVNU Trustees Mtg.
Nov 11 Primetime Day Maysville The Refinery (formerly Maysville 1st)
Nov 19 Annual Thanksgiving Offering
Dec 2 District Leadership Christmas Luncheon Blue Licks State Park
Jan 19-21 DCPI (Dynamic Church Planting International) Training
Pastors and Layman are invited to attend this event together

Joni and I continue to be humbled by your faithfulness. Thanks so much for your obedience and also
the support we feel from you, on the Great Eastern Kentucky District.

Totally His, Rev. Doug Wyatt

Engage the Word 2017-2018

What is Engage the Word?

Engage the Word is an exciting and easy way to deepen your connection to God and others through daily read-
ing of His Word. This special emphasis is uniquely designed for individuals, families, small groups, and con-
gregations to develop lifelong habits of daily Scripture engagement.
Community Bible Experience
This year we are recommending the use of Community Bible Experience, which are special resources created
by Biblica. Community Bible Experience is a different way to read the Bible. It is less like a reference book
and more like a story. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Hk_lVp2tXXk&feature=youtu. be to view a
video illustrating this special methodology.
Through specially designed questions, discussion is encouraged by all age groups regardless of education or
life experiences. In addition, your USA/Canada SDMI office is recommending the use of downloadable re-
sources from the Community Bible Experience from the Biblica website. On September 8, 2017, check the
SDMI website for an additional, free, downloadable, children's poster.
Engage the Word Starting Date
While the published starting date for Engage the Word is in September, in reality it is adjustable. Every year
we have a significant number of Nazarene Churches choose to delay the emphasis until a more convenient
time. Some choose to start in October, others January, and still others in the spring. The goal of Engage the
Word is for every local church to increase their biblical literacy by reading scripture and sharing what they are
learning with each other. To date we have found no more effective way of achieving that goal and reaching out
into the community than the tool we are recommending, the Community Bible Experience.
Digital Resources
When we learned about the potential New Testament delivery problem, we began to explore the availability of
alternate resources. Access to a free electronic copy of the New Testament is available at https://
www.biblica.com/cbe/nt-download/. If you choose this method of delivery, select download under the EBook
graphic, then save the file to your computer. You may have to download a free e-reader so you can view the
file. However, when done, you have the New Testament in your computer. In addition, those who have a Kin-
dle or Nook can download the New Testament without downloading a special reader for $4.99. You will find
other downloadable resources on that same webpage.
