F ew years back, I was led to sow a Mercedes Benz I had just bought as a
sacrificial seed. I drove the car to the place of release and I came back in a public
transport. I must say that my reason for taking that step of faith was to test a spiritual
principle I had just learnt that when you give, you will also receive back in many folds.
My calculation was that once I dropped the car, within some few weeks, someone
would miraculously bless me with an automobile of higher value than what I dropped.
I was actually expecting a BMW. For more than three months I kept looking for that
mysterious person who would just tap me on the shoulders and say something like:
“Brother Ayo, God has ordered me to give you this BMW”. For more than three
months I did not encounter such individuals. I became very disturbed and I started to
wonder if I had not made a big mistake especially since that was the only functioning
car I and my wife were using.
Everyday I continued to ponder over that “stupid decision”. Then in a flash,
one day as I was listening to a sermon in the church, the Holy Spirit dropped this
statement in my heart: “When you give a material possession to God; He does not
repay you with material possession. Rather, He opens the windows of heaven for
supernatural wealth ideas”. That was it! My mood changed instantly and I started to
pray for God to open the window of ideas. Exactly a week after, I got a call from an
individual who wanted me to consult for his company. I talked for only few minutes
and he instantly put me on a retainership for a year and on a monthly instalment
payment. From the proceeds of that job, I bought another car for myself and one for
my wife as well and still with more than enough left to meet other commitments.
Since then, I have been fascinated by any materials or teachings that espouse
the connection between the spiritual and the physical realms. From my personal
experience, I can say that wealth is a spiritual and mind thing. The level of wealth you
can control is directly proportional to your level of spiritual awareness. If you can
comb the Bible, internalise the wealth principles and apply them to your life, you
would continue to swim in banquet of prosperity.
It is interesting to note that unbelievers have used the principles in the Bible with
astounding success but many Christians for whom the secrets are meant have
continued to grope in financial darkness. They spend long times on their knees when
as a matter of fact what is required is that they work these principles out. They
continue to move from night vigil to night vigil hoping that that would solve their
financial hardships.
Don’t get me wrong. God wants you to be holy. He wants you sanctified. But
you must understand that there is a difference between the acts of God and His ways.
God expends mercies with His acts. He wants all of us saved even where we did not
merit such. With His principles, however He wants us to learn how to replicate His
acts without depending much on His handouts. God made us in His image and He
has empowered us with His principles to do what He created us to do: to perform
miracles, to generate wealth, to build outstanding businesses, to invent things, to
become creators of money ideas, to become consultants to the rest of the world.
I believe that the book: Money is Spiritual by Agbede Adeniyi will further show
you how you can tap into the spiritual realm to download the wealth you would need
to do God’s assignment for you. All the chapters are loaded with truths that are also

 INTRODUCTION

P overty is a chain which binds unsuspecting people to living an unhappy and

unfulfilled life of subsistence. Poverty chain will continue to bind people to such
a sorry life until they remember and put into practice the principles that will enable
them break this cruel and unwholesome fetter. This book will remind you of these
principles that will help you to break this chain and to live the abundant life meant for
you. Poverty is a curse and it leaves suffering and death in its trail.
Now, you may remember those good things of life that you desire to have and
enjoy but the reality of poverty has frustrated their fulfilment. In fact, some people
have been so used to poverty that they have lost appetite for good life. But I want to
assure you that no matter the level of your hopelessness; you will come out of it if
only you will diligently follow the instructions that are given in this book.
This book is written to guide you out of financial insolvency. In fact, the idea
to write the book was borne out of my desire to break loose of poverty. It is to serve
as a manual to guide me out of financial quagmire. A spiritual truth says “you teach
people what you need to learn.” The book is written from the stand point of a person
who is seeking legitimate answers to excruciating questions on poverty. Once it is true
that we are all connected as human beings, I know that my questions are also your
own questions. And if this book is able to provide answers to some of my nagging
questions on financial matters, it will help you also to resolve some of your own
questions.
The principles that are shared in the following chapters are the principles that I
need to remind myself of and to consciously inculcate in my daily living. There was a
time and indeed a greater part of my young adult life that I could not fathom the root
cause of my life troubles. Then I was ignorant of the unbreakable laws that under gird
the operations of the universe. As it were I was groping in the dark not knowing what
was tripping me off. I usually held the devil responsible for my below average life.
Also I was afraid of God! I saw God as an antagonist who was all out to destroy me.
It appeared to me that God was closely marking me and watching out for my every
act of indiscretion. To say the least, my life was very horrible and miserable.
But now I thank God for the transformation that my life has undergone. I no
longer live my life in morbid fear of the devil and do not see God as my sworn
enemy. I see God now not only as a friend but also the most simple and trustworthy
friend anyone can have in the whole wide world. Although I still often forget the
universal laws in my daily living, I can say with assurance and joy that I now do know
and understand the reasons why my life experience is unfolding the way it is. To me
this is a great blessing that cannot be quantified.
I trust that with an open mind and painstaking study the truths you are about
to learn in this book will go a long way to put an end to all your financial strains and
devil challenge. But I must be honest with you that the principles shared may not be
of much benefit to you if you do not internalise them. To help you with the process
of internalisation I include relatively simple exercises at the end of each chapter. I
deliberately made the exercises very simple to encourage you to practise them. Please
do not be deceived by their apparent simplicity, they work! “A trial will convince
you.”

Turning From Poverty to Prosperity

T he way to break poverty or insolvency is to turn to the blessings of prosperity.

The operative word is turn. Mark you; I used the word ‘turn’ deliberately.
Remember it does not say struggle or fight. But it says, turn! It asks for a simple
action of turning away from an undesirable to a desirable situation. And this action
that is being called for here is not physical but mental. It is a call for mental shift.
Definitely, you will need physical action but the starting point is mental or spiritual.
What is being called for here is a realignment of energy. That is, moving away from
poverty mindset to abundance mindset. You shall be shown the way to achieve this
energy alignment.

Antidote to Poverty
The antidote to poverty is prosperity. A person that is suffering from a health malady
should ideally see a physician for the solution to the health problem. In like manner, a
person who is suffering from the blight of poverty should apply the medicine of
prosperity to cure this financial malady. Someone said that to change the direction of
a moving train, the tracks on which it is moving must be changed to the desired
direction.
Therefore, in breaking the chain of poverty certain basic principles must be
remembered. That is, these principles are innate in every human being but we have all
forgotten them. And it is this forgetfulness that is the cause of the poverty challenge.
Please be sure that this is not a get-rich-quick book, but I assure you that it will help
you to unlock the combination key to your financial prosperity if you will work it.
Spiritual, mental and physical slothfulness always lead to poverty while intelligent
spiritual, mental and physical efforts lead to prosperity. It is my sincere desire that
practising the principles espoused here will not only lead to your financial
breakthrough but also to the discovery and fulfilment of your life purpose.
Basic Truths
Futility of Fighting Poverty: Why? The reason is that what “you resist persists”.
You may be surprised at that statement. You can try it out to experience the truth of
it. Try to resist a vice and see how you are quickly stuck in it and if care is not taken,
irredeemably. Fighting and struggling against poverty only strengthen the poverty
chain. Each fight or struggle serves as a manure to nourish the menace and it becomes
more powerful in the process. If you fight poverty in conventional ways, defeat will be
the certain outcome.
Have you overcome poverty and embraced financial breakthrough since you
have been fighting or complaining about poverty? Using worldly wisdom to fight
poverty will only lead you to the blind alley of frustration and desperation. It is so,
because poverty is energy and when you place attention on energy it expands.
Therefore, fighting poverty is like pouring petrol on a burning fire and this will result
in a more ferocious fire. A better approach to resolve this challenge is to give up your
fight and try other strategies that have been tried and found to be effective by others
through the ages. These strategies will be discussed in the following pages.

Poverty Represents Darkness: Poverty is darkness. What is darkness? Darkness

is the undesirable things in one’s life, including poverty. To overcome darkness you
must put on light. No amount of cursing or complaining about darkness will bring
the needed light except light is switched on, one way or the other.
In the beginning, when there was darkness, God did not shout at darkness or became
angry at it. Rather He commanded light into existence. We are made in the image and
likeness of God and should follow the example He gave us. Instead of going into a
futile fight against darkness, God went for an effective solution of commanding light
into existence. Through this episode, God is laying before us the best way to resolve
life challenges. That is, call the desired solution into existence through deliberate
creation.

Darkness of Poverty Makes Appreciation of Light of Prosperity

Possible: It is the presence of darkness of poverty that makes the light of wealth
possible. This simply means that the darkness of poverty is playing its role in the
process of realization of prosperity. If we have spiritual understanding we will see the
darkness of poverty as a friend rather than an enemy, because it is the presence of
poverty that makes the choice of prosperity realizable. Therefore, do not rile against
the darkness of poverty but bless it and focus your attention on abundance that you
desire to manifest in your life.

Focus Is The Key To Manifesting Abundance: You should put all your
attention on creating or experiencing abundance in your life. You should consciously
ponder on wealth. It is wealth you desire to manifest, therefore, think only of wealth
and do not give any allowance or space to thoughts of lack. The focus of your
attention determines your life. If you focus on wealth, it will manifest in your
experience. Corollary to this is; if you focus all your attention on lack, you will
definitely manifest lack.

Everything Creates After Its Own Kind: Thoughts of poverty will create
poverty while thoughts of wealth will create wealth. The secret is that we should
concentrate our thought energy on those things we desire to experience in life. But
owing to ignorance of this spiritual principle, we normally focus our attention on
those things that we do not desire to experience. When those things that we are busy
thinking about show up in our lives, we decline responsibility for them and ascribe
them to witches and wizards, or hostile people from our villages.

Stop Holding Third Parties Responsible for Your Predicament: Instead of

accepting full responsibility for what we are experiencing and acknowledging that our
unwise thoughts are the problem, we ascribe the cause of our poverty condition to a
third party. One thing we should know is that when we deny personal responsibility
for our situation, we have disempowered ourselves from doing anything about it. We
have by implication rendered ourselves powerless to change our situation for the
better.
Practical wisdom demands that we should stop this way of living and accept
full responsibility for our situations and predicaments. By accepting responsibility we
are empowering ourselves to be masters of our situations, and we are giving ourselves
the power to change those things we do not desire to experience in our lives. Once
you are the one that is responsible for your predicament then you can change it.
Anything you do not wish to see in your life, do not think about it. In fact, like my
good friend Pastor Sogo Alo of Victorypath Christian Centre will say: “Put it at zero
level”.
 Points to Remember
1. Poverty is energy.
2. Focusing attention on energy of poverty expands it.
3. Without poverty darkness there can be no prosperity light.
4. Foundation of prosperity is energy alignment.
5. Turn away from poverty consciousness to prosperity consciousness.
6. What you resist persists.
7. Accept personal responsibility for your poverty condition.

Action Steps
Abundance-Swimming Exercise
Picture clearly in your mind’s eye a body of water, be it a river, swimming pool or an
ocean. Call this body of water: river, swimming pool or ocean of abundance. Now
plunge into it and swim to your heart’s content. Feel this water of abundance all over
you. Release yourself to enjoy this feeling to the full, and carry this feeling throughout
the day as you are going about your normal duty.
You can do this exercise or a variation of it at any time. But for result, do it
thrice a day. Do it first thing in the morning, afternoon and last thing at night.
Do this exercise for one month and record and evaluate your result at the end
of the month.
 CHAPTER 2

GOD AND PROSPERITY

“…But if you do not find that vibrational balance first and attempt to
make yourself feel better by bringing more things into your experience or
participating in more activities in order to try to make yourself feel
better, you just get further out of balance”.

God Is the Foundation of Prosperity

I n order to have enduring wealth, God must be the foundation. Without God,
whatever prosperity we can lay claim to is in actual sense poverty. The Book of
Proverbs says that the prosperity of fools will destroy them. If a person embarks on
the journey to financial breakthrough without taking God along, he is certain to make
a shipwreck of his journey.
That person is like someone who desires to enter into a house without the key
to open the door to the house. How will he enter into the house except he breaks into
it? And if he breaks into the house he is seen as a common criminal. Jesus Christ said
that a person who will not enter through the door is nothing but a thief and a robber.
If you check through the Bible you will discover that those with enduring wealth built
their wealth on God. In fact, you will discover that they loved God more than their
wealth. Their wealth was the outgrowth of their faith in God. On the other hand,
those who pursued wealth at the expense of God ruined themselves, in some cases,
their households and their countries in the process.

God Consciousness
Before proceeding further in your search for financial breakthrough, resolve here and
now that God will be the centre of your life. After you must have taken this decision,
you must renew it continually. That is, it is not a one-off decision. You must be taking
the decision consciously from moment to moment that God should be the centre of
your life. Like King David in the Bible you must reduce all your heart desires to just
one thing and one thing only, that is, to be in the house of the Lord always. Your only
desire should be to be conscious of the presence of God always. And in the presence
of the Lord, the Bible says, there is fullness of joy and pleasure for evermore. Living
closely to God insures you against premature death.
 Remember that God says that the prosperity of a fool will kill the fool. A fool
is a person who lives his life in total disregard of God. A fool is a person who has
forgotten God. A fool is a person who has nothing to do with anything spiritual. This
is not intended to strike fear in your mind but to encourage you to take a wise
decision in your holy desire to break loose of poverty. King David said he used to
rejoice in the commandments of God as he would for riches. Love of God is non-
negotiable if you are to be an enlightened wealthy person. We must know in our
actual experience the injunction that Jesus Christ gave to His disciples that they
should love the Lord their God with all their hearts, souls, minds and strengths.

Panting after God

We should also be like King David who was panting after God as the deer pants after
brooks (Psalm 42), and he expressed a similar sentiment in Psalm 63 and which reads
thus:
O God, thou art my God; early will I seek thee: my soul thirsteth
for thee, my flesh longeth for thee in a dry and thirsty land, where
no water is; to see thy power and thy glory, so as I have seen thee
in the sanctuary. Because thy lovingkindness is better than life, my
lips shall praise thee. Thus will I bless thee while I live: I will lift
up my hands in thy name. My soul shall be satisfied as with
marrow and fatness; and my mouth shall praise thee with joyful
lips: When I remember thee upon my bed, and meditate on thee in
the night watches. Because thou hast been my help, therefore in
the shadow of thy wings will I rejoice. My soul followeth hard after
thee: thy right hand upholdeth me.

The Pursuit of God
It is therefore a condition precedent that you should be in loving relationship with
God for you to enjoy the bounties of God. Your relationship with God must go
beyond mere religious attachment or occasionally going to your religious organization.
It must even go beyond mere involvement in religious activities. Often we allow the
outward gyration of religious activities to snatch us away from God and these
activities become, as it were, our God.
These activities may be good and legitimate but they must not take the place of
God in our lives. There must be loving relationship between God and us. We should
be able to say along with David that: my soul follows hard after you. The pursuit of
God should be our sole purpose and truly it is our soul purpose. God should be at
the centre of our lives. It has been said that God will either be first, number last or
altogether not in our heart. We must live, walk and do everything in God. God is
our essence and we are forever part of God.

The Vine Tree and Its Branches

However, God’s presence in our hearts will not produce beneficial results if we do not
consciously recognize His holy presence and accord it its right of place. God created
us for His enjoyment and we shall be failing in our most important duty if our lives do
not give pleasure to God. Jesus gave a profound graphic picture of the relationship
that should subsist between God and mankind thus:
“I am the vine, you are the branches. He who abides in Me, and I
in him, the same bears much fruit; for without Me ye can do
nothing.”
John 15:5 (NKJV)
If you do not know a vine tree, you at least know an orange tree and the
relationship between an orange tree and its branches. You know that those branches
that are well attached to the orange tree derive their nourishment from the mother
tree. It is those that are severed from the main tree, for one reason or the other, that
do not partake of the life-giving nourishment being supplied by the mother tree and
they die as a result. In order to enjoy life fully, spiritually, emotionally, physically and
financially, we should be vitally attached to God.

We Are Lifeless Without God

Even though God’s love towards us is not dependent on our reciprocally loving God,
in order to save ourselves from many avoidable troubles, our commitment to God
must be total, for God is our life and light. If God is our life and light, it follows then
that for us to enjoy life and light we must be in God.
If we fail to be in God we shall fail to have the life of God and shall reside in
utter darkness. Without God we will only grope in the dark not knowing how to
resolve the challenges of life and living. But if we truly desire the abundance that can
only come from God then we must anchor our lives in God. God is good, He loves
us and He wants to be our friend.
Futile Confidence in Human Strength
Do not put your trust in your human capability alone. Doing so will amount to short-
changing yourself. That is, you will be closing a great door of help against yourself.
You know that will be an unwise decision more so when God’s help is ever-present
and without discrimination. That is, the help is available to anyone who will take
advantage of it.
In truth, God is more willing to bless you than you are ready to receive. Why?
Because God knows that once you are blessed through His help, He will be able to
reach many people through you. The help is available for the asking. Or more
appropriately, the help is available by tuning in to it. It is like a radio signal. You
cannot receive a radio signal until you tune in to the radio station that is transmitting
the signal. The radio station of God is ever on. It only requires your conscious action
of tuning in for you to start enjoying the help of God.
But if you insist on doing it alone without God, believing that that will bring
quick solution to your financial challenge, you need to think again. It will be good to
carefully consider this admonition from the Bible before embarking on your futile
journey:
“In returning and rest you shall be saved. In quietness and
confidence shall be your strength. But you would not and you said,
“No for we will flee on horses” – Therefore you shall flee! And,
“We will ride on swift horses” – Therefore – those who pursue you
shall be swift!”

 Points to Remember
1. Prosperity of fools will destroy them.
2. Conscious recognition and practice of the presence of God should be our
watchword.
3. God is our life and light.
4. We must be vitally attached to God.
5. Separation from God means separation from vital nourishment and eventual
death.
6. It is futile to pursue wealth at the expense of our relationship with God.
7. Returning to God and resting in Him will lead to enlightened prosperity.

Action Steps
God Consciousness Exercise
1. Use the “best” 10-15 minutes of your day for a deep breathing exercise. Look
for a silent place where you will not be disturbed. Breathe in deeply to your
highest capacity and slowly breathe out.
2. Start a meditation programme. 15 minutes is alright for a start. This may be
increased, over time, to 30 minutes or 1 hour or more as you wish.
Break this 15-minute time period into separate 15 parts of 1 minute each. At the
beginning of each minute decide that you are not going to think about anything.
Focus your attention on God during the duration of the exercise. You may use a
digital clock to assist in monitoring time
