EE106b Project Overview and Rubric

1 Due Dates
The table below consists of the deadlines for the class project. Each item will be explained
in the following subsections!

2 In-Class Presentation
For the in-class presentation, please present the following:
1. What was the motivation for the project?
2. How does this project relate to what youve learned in class?
3. How have other people tried to solve the problem and what makes your approach
unique?
4. Describe your approach and why you decided to attack the problem this way.
5. What progress have you made so far?
6. What do you plan to finish in the next two weeks?
Youll have 8 minutes to present your project and 2 minutes to answer questions we have
for you. This will be grading with the following rubric:

The overall presentation points will be given if everyone in your group presents, you stay
on schedule, and you clearly put effort into your slides. You will also receive points for
effectively answering questions.

Well be assigning you presentation time slots, which can be found here. Please let us know
as soon as possible if you have any conflicts with this.

3 Poster and Demo Session
Demos will be scheduled on May 9th, from 5:00 to 7:30pm. Youll have 20 minutes to setup
and show off what you have done so far with your project. Well be assigning you demo
time slots, which can be found here.
The poster will allow you to talk about what you were not able to plan on finishing over
the next week. Weve provided a template for your poster on bCourses. To have Katie
print it for you, please send her a pdf file of your poster on the Friday before (5/6). Make
sure your poster is the standard 30x40in, otherwise it might come out distorted.

4 Website with Videos


Please make a website that includes
1. Project overview: Think of this as your project pitch.
(a) Describe the end goal of your project and what makes it interesting.
(b) In what real-world robotics applications could the work from your project be
useful?
2. Implementation and Results Please include:
(a) Summary of approach and hardware/setup used. Illustrate this with a diagram
and/or flow chart.
(b) Summarize software used and written. Provide links to code used.
(c) Link to report.
(d) Pictures and videos of your system working (or failing).
3. Conclusion: Summary of your results, difficulties encountered, things you would
have changed, and possible future directions.
4. Team Bios: Names and short bios of each member of your project group.
You can use any platform you like to host the website. Google Sites is an easy option if
you dont have another preference. Please submit the address of your finished website to us
on the online survey well provide. Your site must be finished by Friday, May 13th at
midnight. Please note that this is a hard deadline to give us time to grade the finished
projects.

5 Final Report
Please write your report in the IEEE format and include the following sections:

1. Abstract
(a) This is a short summary of your work, with highlights of what is most
important. Keep this less than 100 words.
2. Introduction/Motivation
(a) Please include at least 5 citations of work that supports your motivation, with a
sentence or two description of each work.

(b) Describe the motivation and how this relates to what youve learned in class.
(c) Briefly summarize your approach.

3. Related Works
(a) Please include at least 5 citations, with a sentence or two description of each
work.
4. Methods

(a) Carefully write out the theory behind what youre doing as well as the details of
the implementation.
(b) This should include a high level overview of the workflow and equations of the
models used.
5. Results

(a) Provide a qualitative summary of your results.


(b) Do some quantitative analysis of your results. Provide at least one table and/or
plot of your results and a summary of what you observed.
6. Conclusion/Discussion

(a) Summarize key ideas and results.


(b) Reflect on what you would do differently and possible future directions.
