Useful Notes:
Tense: The word ‘tense’ comes from the Latin word ‘tempus’ which means ‘time’. English has 3 basic tenses:
1. Present tense
2. Past tense, and
3. Future
According to modern grammar, there is no ‘Future Tense’ because ‘Future’ can be expressed in a number of other ways, not only by using ‘shall’ and
’will’.
Aspect: The word ‘aspect’ comes from the Latin word ‘aspectus’ which means ‘appearance’. In grammar, the word ‘aspect’ means ‘a type of
(inflected) verbs that show us whether an action simply happens, happening repeatedly or whether the action is completed’.
In English, there are four aspects:
1. Simple aspect (Indefinite aspect) Example: I write a letter.
2. Continuous aspect (Progressive aspect), Example: I am writing a letter.
3. Complete aspect (Perfect aspect), and Example: I have written a letter.
4. Perfect progressive aspect Example: I have been writing a letter.
