COURSE DESCRIPTION

This course provides an opportunity for students to gain insights and understanding of the IT-
amplified global business and the challenges to manage it. The view of both strategic and tactical
IT management will be covered. This includes the managerial aspects of identifying opportunities
to deploy IT in a context of high uncertainty, technological turbulence, and rapid obsolescence
while facing competitive pressures to reduce costs, improve customer service and tap new
markets.

LEARNING OUTCOMES

Upon completion of this course, the student should be able:

1. Demonstrate an understanding of the essentials of business process redesign, computerized


enterprise systems, supply chain management and relationship management systems.
2. Demonstrate an understanding of the key implications that IT management holds for
competitive strategy.
3. Discuss comprehensively the organizational IT infrastructure and alternative IT
architectures in providing and managing the IT infrastructure.
4. Critically analyze the changing role of information technology in the achievement of
business objectives such as communication, collaboration, performance enhancement and
strategy implementation.
5. Analyze complex management problems within the information technology environment and
develop appropriate recommendations.
6. Evaluate opportunities to solve problems or enhance IT environment, and make
recommendations that can be implemented and that will keep the organization responsive to
technological changes.
7. Visualize the future impact of IT on managers, organizations, economy, and society.

review of the study. Submit both case study and review.

3 SEMINAR 20 28.08.2010

You will form a group of 4-5 members. Prepare a seminar


presentation on any of the following topics:

• Trust Management in the Globalization of IT


• IT-Enabled Marketing
• Enterprise 2.0
• Is Technology a Cost Driver or a Cost Saver in Health Care?

Each group will be given 30 minutes to present their paper


including Q&A. A short executive summary and the presentation
slides (hard & soft copy) must be submitted. BONUS marks will
be awarded to group presenters that generate healthy and
insightful discussion.

This is a group project. You have to form a group of 6-7


members.

Choose any ONE of the following topic:

1. Create a wiki for Halal Food to give the global citizens a


good understanding of the Muslim needs and also attract
business to explore the halal food industry
OR

2. Build a working portal for the Halal Food industry.


Develop a business model that will sustain the business.
