CHAPTER OUTLINE

The research project will be divided into five chapters with the following breakdown.

CHAPTER ONE

INTRODUCTION AND OVERVIEW


This will embody a statement of the problem which the research project seeks to address and
proffer solutions to.

Problems of waste in Nigeria Cities using ABUJA, LAGOS, KADUNA, PORTHARCOUT , as


study location

Waste composition and processes involved in waste management viz (generation,


collection, sorting, transportation, and eventual disposal).
Definition of key concepts such as WASTE, WASTE MANAGEMENT,
SUSTAINABLE DEVELOPMENT,RESOURCE CONTROL, EFFECTIVE WASTE
MANAGEMENT, etc

CHAPTER TWO

EFFECTIVE WASTE MANAGEMENT IN NIGERIA AND OTHER JURIDICTIONS

The extant legislation s regulating waste in Nigeria will be considered viz

The National Protection Management of Solid and Hazardous Wastes Regulations


(1991)
The Pollution Abatement in Industries and Facilities generating Wastes Regulations
(1991)
The General Guidelines for Pollution Abatement in Industries (1991)and also state
agencies saddled with the responsibility of waste management in the cities to be
examined such LAWMA for lagos state,AEFP in Abuja,etc

The effectiveness or otherwise of these legislations in regulating the issue of waste will also be
examined. Also a comparative studies of what Is obtainable in other jurisdiction to learn how
they have forged ahead in managing their waste and recommendations taking into considerations
geographical, cultural and economic factors to adopt same or similar method .

Private sector participation (formal and informal)
Technologies, Machinery equipment and Skilled labour

SUSTAINABILITY ASSESSMENT OF SOLID WASTE

This chapter will examine the practical benefit of using a sustainable method of waste
management considering three aspects viz Environmental, administrative, and social.

The chapter will summarise the key point made and conclude with recommendations for an
effective waste management in view
