I.T - THE NEW LANGUAGE. Session 1.- Learning

English.

Situation

Read the text and listen to the situation:

NARRATOR: Mara and Fermn have already applied for an internship in the UK but now they
are worried about the situation.

MARA: I have to confess that I'm a little bit worried about our internship.

FERMN: Yes I'm worried too. This internship will be something good for us because we
already know how to spake English but I don't know if our technical English is
good enough.

MARA: I agree with you. You already know what happens here in Spain when you try to
explain something related with I.T. Nobody can undrestand us even in Spanish. Can
you imagine solving technical glitches in English?

NARRATOR: Fermn tries to cheer her up and says.

FERMN: I'm sure things will be ok. We only have to practice some technical vocabulary and if
somebody asks you something difficult and you don't know the answer you can say
the universal answer.

MARA: Yes, you are right. If I have a problem and I don't know the solution I will say. "Have
you tried turning it off and on again?

Think about it
Write in the forum:

how to start gathering information about technical English.

MARA: Let's not panic!. everything will be fine

FERMN: Yes, but we will need to find a computer to surf on the

internet and gather information.

MARA: Yes, but there is so much information out there. we need some
help.

FERMN: Ok. Let's start with the basic. Why do we ask to Manolo?. He's
a I.T. repair technician I'm sure he can help us.

MARA: Ok. Let's go to talk with him
