Learning Experience: Cognitive Fitting colorful pegs into the peg board
I am going to organize this child directed learning experience at the cognitive table in the
Kindergarten room. With this experience, children will have the opportunity to fit the
colorful pegs into the according space, also learn the different colored pegs their using
finger and gain more fine motor skills
Objectives:
1. The children will further develop 5.3 Fine Motor skills from the Physical domain
as they have the opportunity to use their palmer and pincer grasp to pick up the
pegs and place them into the according to space
2. The children will also further develop 4.5 Observing skills from the Cognitive
domain as they have the opportunity to gather information through observing
how the other children are playing the activity
3. The children will also further develop 4.12 Counting Skills from the Cognitive
Domain as they have the opportunity to count each peg as they fit it into the peg
board.
Materials:
4 peg mats
20 colorful pegs
Implementation:
1. I will set up the small peg mats and the colorful pegs on each side of the table so
more than two children are able to play the activity
2. I will provide the children with 4 chairs
3. I will invite the children to explore the cognitive mat and pegs
4. Throughout their exploration, I will encourage the children with positive behavior
reflections as they place the pegs into the appropriate space
Teaching Strategies:
Invitation:
I will invite the children to the cognitive table to explore the small peg boards and
colorful pegs. As I invite them I will say Come here guys, do you want to try this
activity with me. This will give the children an opportunity to get invited to play the
activity

Behavior Reflection:
Throughout the learning experience, I will encourage the children as they place the
colorful pegs into the according space which will give them an opportunity to get
appreciated and motivate them to keep putting the different colored pegs into the space
