-Aim:
Determine the capillary pressure using a porous Diaphragm pressure device .

-Equipments :
1-Seal of red oil : 2-Graduated cylinder :

3-Saturated core : 4- Crude oil :

Porous Diaphragm Capillary Pressure Device

-Procedure :
1- We place a cylindrical core sample saturated with water onto the
porous plate in the chamber ( which is also saturated with water ) .

2- We adjust the pressure regulator and we give the chamber the pressure
difference . ( the pressure in the chamber increases step by step forcing
the gas In the chamber to displace the water from the sample through the
plate ) .

3- After few days , pressure ceases and the core is removed from the cell .

4- We weight the core.

5- We calculate the saturation at each capillary pressure .

6- We plot a graph between ( P and S )

-Calculations :
-Surface tension = 70 dynes/ cm

-g= 9.81 g/cm^2

-D=5cm - L=12cm -Wdry= 50 g.

- Wsat= 59 g - Porosity = 20%

-Sw=[( Wwet Wdry) / ( Wsat --- WDRY ) ] * 100

-r = (2 g w)/ Pc
- Table:
No ( i) Pc ( cm ) Wwet (g) Sw (%) r Delta

Saturation of
water (%)
-Advantages and disadvantages :

1- Advantages :
- Very accurate.

- Equipment used are inexpensive .

- Several samples may be run in one chamber .

- Can use reservoir fluids and can convert obtained data to reservoir
conditions.

2-Disadvantages :
- Slow, that is a full curve needs around 40 days or more to be
completed.
