Dance Team Try Out Packet

Thank you for your interest in the DeWitt High School Dance Team Club! Coach Shoemaker
is excited to continue the development of a strong Competitive Dance Program. All students
participating will need to have a Physical on file in order to participate on the dance team. Prior
dance experience is required!

TRYOUT EXPECTATIONS
On the first day of tryouts, you need to turn in your completed Tryout Sheet and your
Agreement Form. These MUST be turned in for you to receive a tryout number.
All dancers will partake in warm up exercises. Then, a choreography session of the Jazz and
Hip Hop Styles will occur. Following that group and individual evaluations will take place.
Finally, you will be asked to demonstrate several of the skills we have worked on. The
following day, you will receive an email that will indicate if you have made the team. A
parent/guardian will be CC on the email. For a current schedule, check the website.

WHAT TO EXPECT ON THE DANCE TEAM

COMMITMENT
If you make the team, you will be expected to be at all practices on time and be
prepared for practice (ex. Have your hair up and wear dance attire). Practices will usually be on
Monday, Tuesday & Wednesday 2:45-3:45pm when school is in session. If you miss the
practice before a performance, you may not be able to dance at that performance. Only 6
absences are allowed per season. This Club is in compliance with DHS policy that
students will be eligible based on a pass of 3/5.
OPPORTUNTIES
You will also be expected to attend all performances. We will have the opportunity to perform
at Basketball Home games, team fundraisers, Compete in Competitions, Perform at
Community Events in group routines and solos. A detailed schedule will be distributed in the
Welcome Packet via email. *Routines are in Hip Hop and Jazz.
FINANCIAL OBLIGATION
As this Team is a club, team member are responsible for all financial matters. This includes
Uniforms/Costumes, Competition Fees, Summer Camp Fees, Music Costs, Team Banquet
Fees and Miscellaneous. The estimate for the entire season is 250.00 per team
member. There will be several fundraisers throughout the season, where Team Members
will be asked to participate in. Last year, 10% of fees were covered by fundraising efforts.
SCHOOL SPIRIT
You are supporting your Athletic Teams at Games, representing your school at Competitions,
and working together as a team with positivity and encouragement.

The DeWitt High School Dance Team is an afterschool club for High School students. This
Club is offered as a fun activity for students interested in learning and practicing dance. Tryouts
for this Club are necessary. If you make the Dance Team, understand the financial obligations,
time commitment and eligibility as it pertains to Dewitt High School Policy.

and performances. Also, the Coach/Instructors/School are not responsible for lost items or
