1.0 INTRODUCTION

Tobacco has been growing wild in the Americas for nearly 8000 years. Around 2,000
years ago tobacco began to be chewed and smoked during cultural or religious ceremonies and
events. In early North America for smoking in indigenous individual is using pipe whether in
ceremony, something religious or etc in nearly that century. Smoking not something usual during
that century that is because the smokers are bit less and the quantity of user are small. The sales
and promotion for this century is not attractive as this time so the cigarettes do not get so much
attraction.

Nowadays, cigarettes are worldwide at any country. There must be more than six brand of
cigarette sold at market these day, the quantity for people smokes cigarette increases as the
supplier increase year by year. Along that year, amount of lighter or matches also directly
proportional with the amount of cigarette sold, smoker always need a lighter. This is because
they need it to ignite the cigarette. Therefore, they need two things to bring anywhere which are a
cigarette pack and a lighter. Human has a bad habit which is forgetful and careless so, it is surely
that misplace will happen. As an example, if the smokers go hang out or eat at the restaurant,
they will take out the cigarette and lighter to start smoking. Then, it is surely that whether a box
of cigarette or lighter will be left there or misplaced after they left the restaurant. Besides that,
smokers usually smoke in the public and as a result the ashes and the cigarette butts will be
littering around.

So, to interface and alter these problems, we have made an innovation of cigarette pack
holder. We invent and modify it by adding a mini ashtray which is portable and easy to clean it.
Also, we add a partition of lighter in order to prevent from misplacing and missing. This
invention will help the smoker to take care of environment cleanliness and save the cost of
buying cigarette or lighter once it is missing caused by the habits of forgetful and careless.

In the nutshell, we make a research and gathering data regarding to these problems to
come out with the best solutions that can help us to protect our environment from full of ashes
and cigarette butts that are littering anywhere and achieve a good cleanliness environment in
order to live peacefully and harmony. Moreover, invention of cigarette pack holder can save the
money of the smoker instead of waste the money for futile things only just repeated buying the

missing cigarette and lighter. Hence, we are targeting that our product can hit the marketing even
though it looks like carry negatives vibes but it is actually gives a positive effects.

2.0 PROBLEM STATEMENT

Based on our observation, we can conclude our problem statement is the ashes littering
around and make our surrounding and environments disturbed. In a big country like Malaysia,
the amount of smoker are getting bigger, although this is not a good thing to celebrate we can see
and identify the problem, that smoker not just getting addicted to smoke cigarette but also
becoming messy and a polluter in person. This kind of criteria for smoker are in a big amount
based on our observation that curbstone or cigarette bud are getting higher spreading and littering
around whether in smoking area or no smoking area. This natural pest habit make our
environment tired to get along with cigarette smoke and ashes causes from the smoker. Other
than that, smoker always need something to fire the cigarette in order to feel the smoke burning,
to do that they need a lighter or matches. Some smoker are using matches to fire their cigarette
that is because matches is cheaper than a lighter prize in market. For some smoker that using
lighter they see that matches is not getting ergonomic criteria when used, so they use lighter that
more ergonomic and aesthetic in view. This lighter user are struggle with problem that their
lighter are always missing and misplaced when hang out. This problem are making more lighter
that been used up spread around and produced more rubbish. Other than that, smoker usually
gain problem when it is rainy day. For a smoker that drive car to get somewhere they dont face
this problem because not getting wet in the end but for the smoker that ride back home they
usually face problem that their cigarette also getting wet and their lighter are broken and cannot
fire.

To solve this problem, some researches are made by our observation that is we provided some
invention to solve this problem simultaneously make our environment more cared and healthier.
For the first problem that we gain in previous paragraph, smoker are getting more polluter and
make environment sacked with their cigarette bud, so we make some ideas and invention that is
becoming more ethics smoker. Respect the environment and people that sucks smoke that
smoker produced when smoke at the public. Dont take somebody die with you so we invent

some cases that provide partition to cigarette pack and astray when smoke. This invention not
just make smoker more respect to environment but also be a cleaner in person because the space
provided can limitless recycle the uses of this ashtray because the ashtray can slidely open up at
the side of the ashtray. This cases are rigidly reliable to ergonomic and aesthetic criteria. We
provide ashtray to keep reminding about environment.

For the problem that smoker gain and give impact to environment also is about the lighter
and matches that used by the smoker. The lighter are always missing and misplaced by the
smoker and the matches is also break when used to fire the cigarette and mostly is the stick of
matches is spread around and literally spoiled the environment once again. This problem causes
more impact to people and user of the environment.so we invent space at the same cases to keep
safe a lighter with smoker. They will not easily misplace the lighter and not produced more broke
lighter at the environment. This is some ideas created to be more ethics smoker.

When it is rainy day the smoker are usually face trouble and problem that they get wet
cigarette and hard to dry back and cannot be smoke.so we invent the same cases that provided a
water proof leather to keep lighter and cigarette packs dry during the rainy day. This invention
made up to make smoker more saving for their spent in money. This leather also follow the
ergonomic and aesthetic criteria to handle. The smell from the smoke make your body smelly
and this leather got a fix original leather smell and it will not make the smoke attach to it so it
prevent from the smoker being humiliated for getting a leather that easily attach to smell.

3.0 CREATIVE PROBLEM SOLVING
Creative Problem Solving (CPS) is defined as a problem solving technique that addresses
a challenge or problem in a creative manner. To meet the criteria for solving a problem in a
creative manner, the solution should resolve the declared problem in an original manner with the
solution being reached independently. This idea generation strategy usually incorporates a team
approach. This is owing to the fact that people inside the workplace are allowed to engage in the
process of change in their search for creative solutions.

 Basically, CPS method consists of three main ideas which are explore the challenge,
generate ideas and prepare for action. After complete all the steps of CPS method, we will come
out with a new design that will solve all the problems that already stated before.

In making this Cigarette Pack Holder, we used the CPS (creative problem solving)
method for solving the problems in creative and innovative ways. This will help us explore the
challenges, generating ideas and preparing for action effectively.

It is very important in any case study for us to set our aim or target that needed to be
focused on .it is indeed the very first step in setting good goals and hence some time must
be spend figuring out what our goals really are.

4. Easier to bring anywhere as it is handy pocket sized.

In order to developing new ideas and such by unrestrained and spontaneous

as much as we can.

Clarify the problem

Clarification of the problem is very vital in order for us to get a clear picture of what
problem are we really facing it is one of the early detection process that will be beneficial
in problem solving.

We clarify the problem based on data that we gathered from previous steps.

1. Previous products only just have a part for store the lighter.
2. The environments are full of ashes and cigarette butts
3. Lighters and cigarettes are always missing and misplaced.
4. Waste of money for futile things.
5. Cigarettes are wet during rainy day as example when ride motorcycle and
suddenly rain.

Generate the idea

Generate idea is the process of creating, developing, and communicating ideas which are
abstract, concrete, or visual. The process includes the process of constructing through the idea,
innovation of the concept, developing the process, and bringing the concept to reality.

To generate the ideas for our product, we use divergent thinking method for solving the
challenge.

1. Adding a part for the mini portable ashtray to easily clean the ashes and cigarette butts
when it is full.
2. The part for store lighter is modified by adding a mechanism when push a button it will
push out the lighter from the stored place.
3. Materials used to cover the cigarette pack holder is waterproof materials to prevent
the cigarettes get wet when spilled by the water.
4. It is just handy pocket size so that it easier to bring anywhere.

An action plan is a document that lists what steps must be taken in order to achieve a specific
goal. The purpose of an action plan is to clarify what resources are required to reach the goal,
formulate a timeline for when specific tasks need to be completed and determine what
resources are required.

We also plan for action for implementation on our product by listing possible actions and create

The ashtray used is a medium mini size and it is portable to clean the ashtray.

4.0 IDEA DESCRIPTION

During inventing this product, we searching a few good aspects about the product to
become more useful and satisfy the users. As we know, the lighter port is only to store the lighter.
Therefore, our idea is to add a mechanism which is when a button is pressed the lighter will
release out. This is an attraction of this product will ease the smokers to use the lighter.
Furthermore, there is also port for throwing ashes and cigarette butts under the cigarette storage.
In order to use the ashtray, the ashtray can be slide to open it out. This cigarette pack holder is
also covered by a leather which is waterproof to cover the cigarette and lighter from spilled
water. For the cigarette storage and lighter port, each of the part has their own caps while the
ashtray port is only just slide it to open or close by a hinge.

At the end of the research, we compile all the idea and problem to settle the problem that
smoker had in one cases only and this cases have advantages to face the problem and be more
ethics smoker in life in person in friendship and etc.

ergonomic type and criteria, so it is literally easy to hold

Cigarette pack holder that be used as a cover is leather and this leather are engineered to
be water proof so the cigarette pack not getting wet in rainy day

The invention that we create make smoker life more clean and make environment
healthier because we invent some partition that can slide open up at the side of the
partition to make sure smoker make the ash out from the partition and reuse the uses of
this partition and it can make environment cleaner.

Smoker need lighter to fire their cigarette and when this requirement appear smoker face
another problem that is missing the lighter or misplaced. We solve the problem by make
up the cigarette pack holder to provide some space to put lighter to make sure that smoker
will saving the money to buy another lighter and prevent from environment being messed
up by smoker that used matches. Matches can produced more rubbish to the environment
and leave matches stick and it litter around and make rubbish so we create this solution.

Environment healthier
When we provide this invention the environment will continue healthy and we cure the
problem created by the smoker.

Safe to use
Our invention not using a hard material as our cases. It will not having a sharp edge at the
edge of the cases and it is exactly save to use and harmful. We covered our invention
using leather to avoid sharp edge and harmful spot like the edge of the cases or cigarette
pack holder.

Low maintenance
The cigarette pack holder are invented to be low maintenance and it is actually have no
problem to be maintenance. This is because we already make the idea of recycle the uses
of the partition ashtray and make the ashtray always have and empty space to fill the
ashes.

Last longer
The idea is make up to be last longer product. The uses of this cigarette pack are last
longer. We invent it to easier smoker life and avoid all the smoker problem by using this
invention.

attach the smell problem and can live like the other without feel uncomfortable.

to remind about environment and keep environment save and healthier. People will respect the
smoker that cant quit with this invention. Got a fix originality smell from the leather an
engineered to not attach by smell.

Conceptual Design

Basically our design is very simple yet have various advantages and multifunction. Our
product contain mechanisms that make smoker easier to smoke without littering around. In this
design, we innovate the cigarette pack holder with add on lighter and mini ashtray. Our objective
is to ensures our environment clean and prevent waste of money. We also make our component
decomposition analysis and functional decomposition analysis in order to finalize this project
successfully. This process help us generate new ideas which make our product more useful. In
addition, this process also affect our product performance, development time, value and cost.
Hence, this chapter will explain how the design work to accomplish our objective.

Figure 5.1 shows the component decomposition analysis of our product. It shows that it
has 3 main components which is cigarette box, mini ashtray port and lighter port. Body part
make of plastic and cover by leather. We make it from plastic to ensure it will be light to carry

 and not hurt our body when put it into the pocket. The whole cigarette pack holder is in the most
suitable size to grab and will be covered with leather to be more ergonomically and ecstatically.
The cigarette box are inspiration and designed to fulfill the requirement and need of the
environment with the smoker. The cigarette box are design to be the most suitable box designed
for smoker.

For the mini ashtray port and lighter box, it is designed and the concept are to settled
smoker problem that is missing or misplaced and spoiled to environment. It has criteria that
make smoker keep their lighter with them and litter the ashes from the cigarette at the ashtray
provided. The partition that provided can help environment to be cleaner and the smoker be an
ethics smoker. Figure 5.2 below shows the function decomposition analysis of product. It
portrays that each component has their own function and has and each has their relationship with
other components to allow the system to perform in cycle operation

Solution
From our product, just slide out the ashtray
and put the ashes inside it. The ashtray is
easily to clean and wash.
We just build a lighter port in order to prevent
misplaced. Just push that button and the lighter
that we put at that port will come out.
Our cigarette box is made from plastic which
is waterproof. So, we can interface repeated
buying of cigarette because it getting wet. Our
product is also cover by the leather which not
only give strength to the box but prevent the
cigarette from getting wet.
Material used

Material such as an important element for a product as every material have their own
characteristic. It is necessary to know the characteristic of the metal that we used as we can know
pros and cons got onto our product when using that material. If we overlooked on this element,
probability of our product to reach failure is higher. That why we take time and make some
research to choose the most suitable materials depends on our requirement needed by the smoker
to make the invention last longer. Material that been used for this inventing are mostly research
first and this invention was make up with plastic 90 %. This percent make the invention more
last longer and it is cover by the leather. Leather selected because it is water proof and make the
cigarette pack not wet in rainy day. When the cases are fall or we as human make mistake and
easily can dropped the cases so that why we choose plastic to make this invention.

In our project design, we choose plastic as our main material as its characteristic had attract
us. Firstly, plastic is water proof, so it solve our problem statement which is to prevent the
cigarettes getting wet. Then, plastic also resistance to corrosion and chemicals, low electrical and
thermal conductivity, high strength-to-weight ratio, colors available in a wide variety and
transparent, resistance to shock, good durability, low cost, are easy to manufacture, resistant to
water and have low toxicity that environmental friendly .All the above characteristic give a lot of
advantages to our product and ensure our product look perfect in general look and attract more
people to buy it. Back to our objectives, the characteristic of the plastic looked more suitable to
our product based on their function.

In addition, in our ashtray port, we used steel as it characteristic looks convenient with the
function of ashtray. This material used for this invention are the most suitable materials and
composition for this kind of invention. This material is used and make this cases last longer.
Materials that been used are experimentally observed and researched before we finalize the
materials. So the materials used are the most suitable materials to be used in this invention. The
ashtray port had to face the burning ashes and this problem we solve by using steel as base our
ashtray port to make sure this ashtray can be used for a longer time. It is easy to clean up and
make the ashtray can be used again and again. So this material make things easier in order to
prevent and we conclude all the problem settled.

 Lastly, lighter port also made from steel in order to protect the lighter from break. Steel have
very hardness strength so that it can protect the lighter. It also easier to people push the button to
swipe up the lighter. So we consider our material selection is good and suitable for mechanism in
this product in aspect of characteristic.

Economics can be defined in a few different ways its the study of scarcity, the study of
how people use resources, or the study of decision-making. Economics often involves topics like
wealth, finance, recessions, and banking, leading to the misconception that economics is all
about money and the stock market. Actually, its a much broader discipline that helps us
understand historical trends, interpret todays headlines, and make predictions for coming
decades.
Economics related to the engineering work is called engineering economics, or previously
known as engineering economy. Engineers seek solutions to problems, and the economic
viability of each potential solution is normally considered along with the technical aspects.

Economics may also appear to be the study of complicated tables and charts, statistics and
members, but more specifically, it is the study of what constitutes rational human behavior in the
endeavor to fulfill the needs and wants. Costing on the other hand is a system of computing the
cost production or of running a business, by allocating expenditure to various stages of
production or to different operations of a firm. Meanwhile, a business plan is a document that
summarizes the operational and financial objectives of a business and contains the detailed plans
and budgets showing how the objectives are to be realized.
Some of the most obvious benefits that we can gain from business planning include an
opportunity to test out a new idea to see if it holds real promise of success, a clear statement of
the business mission and vision and a set of values that can help we steer our business through
times of trouble. Besides that, the benefit of business planning includes benchmarks that we can

Cigarette pack holder is one of the innovative products that we as a group thinks can
helps to ensure the smokers to smoke while saving the earth by not throwing the cigarette butt
and ashes everywhere. We are seeing this as the best opportunities in this business field because
according to statistic from ocean trash index, cigarette butt is the most commonly found pieces of
trash in oceans. Before we start the product invention, we make a few studies to obtain the
accurate material and appropriate one so that it can be used in the long term. Throughout the
process, we also face some problems which most of them are come from the material and the
process of designing the cigarette pack holder. Lastly, to overcome this problem, we come out
with some ideas to design a new cigarette pack holder that are friendly user and easy to use.

which is to bring it everywhere, and most importantly its design is smart. Our design is also
indeed very special because we considered eco-friendly.

However, this product also can be sell to customers who want to give this cigarette pack holder

folks. We believe that our product will be purchased and can achieve the market sale. The details

Advertising is one way to attract customers. For strategy advertising, there are various ways
to attract customers to buy our products. There are several elements that should be applied in the
ads. Some of substance that should be in the ad is

There are many ways to promote. The promotion that our group will do is member rate
cuts and hence customer can get 10% of discount during the early launching of our product. This
is to attract other customers to be attracted and interested with our product and services provided.
Our group will also provide affordable member promotion / primary to customers. By means of
this promotion, it will eventually help our product sales rate. In the words of successful
entrepreneurs, let us gain a little, as long as customers buying rate increase and higher customer
satisfaction.

iii. Private sales

We will promote the product to our costumer to convict that our product is good and the
best. We will also convince our costumer that our product is affordable and reliable.

iv. Public relationship

To improve profitability or high sales rates, promotional and advertising strategy is
indispensable. This must be done to attract or captivate the customers to come to the premises to
get the product.

For service strategy, we offer warranty and provide service centre. For warranty, the
quality assurance we offer is for one year and any damages caused certain related matters can be
referred back to us for the good of products purchased by consumers.

Our product is the creativity of our idea from the innovation of simple cigarette pack
holder, lighter and ashtray, we combine from 3 different parts to 1 whole part; 3 in 1. Our
product is eco-friendly because it save environments from cigarette butt and ashes. So that we
can enjoy our nature without those trashes and have better air. In addition, we can use it for a
long time unless it went missing. Next the price of our product is affordable to all people which
are only around RM20. Lastly, the process flow of this product is smooth and systematic.

In order to make sure that our product is launched successfully, a financial plan is created
after the objective has been set. Our financial plan involves the following tasks:

environment. Our idea to create this have is an eco-friendly product. So, we are confident

The objective of our project is to have better environment and to save our dying earth from
the most common trashes which is cigarette butt. Furthermore, save the money from wasting
it to repeated buy the futile things such as lighter and cigarette.

CONCLUSION

In a nutshell, we think we had generated a very useful idea that have many advantages in a
good way. We generate idea based on the problem that people face lately and we make a product
to solve the problem. We make a new multifunction cigarette pack based on the idea from our
observation and normal cigarette pack itself. We finally finish to make our product that have
solved our problem statement after 2 month make various research. Our product named Cigarette
Pack Holder.

During doing and completing this group project, we have consulted our lecturer Prof Madya
Dr Nik Hisyamudin bin Muhd Nor to show our progress. We discuss together about the project
and sharing our ideas. We make this project based on Creative Problem Solving (CPS) method
and it helped to make our progress smooth and smart. There are 3 major steps on CPS method
which are Explore the challenge, Generate ideas and lastly, Prepare for action. Moreover, we also
discussed and make some visit to several restaurant to look ourselves what happen if our

product is absent. We observed that the environment is too dirty and saw ourselves that all the
smoker throw out their cigarette butt anywhere after finish smoke. So, after the visit, we more
confidence our product will help the world in various aspect. We make our report together and
help each other in order to complete our report. We make this product to save our environment
and help people saving their money. As u know, our national, Malaysia economy quietly not in a
stable forms lately and as a result saving money is very important to survive in this world.

Otherwise, we used Ishikawa diagram to help us organize our project properly. Ishikawa
diagram is very useful and brilliant method to organize perfectly what our objective and what we
need to do. We also used morphology chart to analyze our product process. Besides that, we
describe the advantage and disadvantage of this product so that our people willing to accept the
effect of this product. We also show the mechanism properties in our product which make a good
advantages to our people. Next, we gaining a knowledge about entrepreneur skill by planning the
marketing, financial and business plan. Based on our business value, we had increase our finance
value to hit the market outside. We hope our product accepted by the people and make our earth
clean and saving our money. We does not make this product to help the smoker but want to save
our environment life and to realize people about the important of saving money.

Last but not least, we just want to mention that we cannot stop the people to stop smoke, but
we can only antidotal them to ruin our environment and waste money for this futile things. In
order to achieve this, we had make this product.
