Viewpoint: Credit Manager

Time Context: When the Credit Manager was about to write a memo of recommendation for promotion.

Problem: Whether consider Marcials promotion or not.

Objective: To be able to find enough information whether Marcial will be promoted or not.

Areas of Consideration:

Strength

Being an ambitious young man, however, he took to evening school and as a self-supporting
student, pursued a Bachelor of Science in Commerce degree with major in Economics, during
the next four succeeding years.
He was promoted to receivables clerk, a position he held with above average effieciency for
three solid years.
By virtue of his past record, Monico Marcial was an easy choice to fill up one of the new slots in
the Credit Investigation Unit.
In a matter of six months, he had developed into one of the units dependables and was usually
assigned to tackle with his supervisor considered the more important application to be
investigated.
Marcials assignments actually brought him to various business centers around the country.
Marcial has been asked to assist formulate new systems and procedures to facilitate credit
investigation. He was also asked to design new forms to improve the quality of credit reports.
Because of all these, the Credit Manager did not fail to spot the potentials of Monico Marcial for
promotion to a supervisory position.
The credit manager was convinced about his capacity and ability.

Weakness

That indeed, Magpantay gave him send-off gifts as alleged in the letter.
He was handed a boxful of pasalubong which he discovered to be food stuff and Muslim metal
crafts when he opened the same upon arrival at their residence.

Threat

What I am interested to know is whether you will allow a corrupt employee to continue in the
employ of your company.

Alternative Courses of Action:

To promote Marcial
Advantages: The credit manager did not fail to spot the potentials of Martial for
promotion.
He gathered information from local businessmen that Magpantay was known to be a
swindler and a smuggler.
Marcial mentioned that Magpantay showed a parcel of land different from that covered
by the TCT he had submitted.
Disadv: Magpantay might complain why Marcial will be promoted.
If Marcial is promoted, he will have the record regarding the incident.

Not to promote Marcial


Adv: There will be no issue about corrupt employees.
Disadv: The Company will lose a potential employee.

Indifferent

Decision: The Credit Manager decides to promote Marcial with the following terms and conditions:

Be able to pay Magpantay for the expenses.


Marcial will be assigned to loads of credit investigations to be able to gain back his
reputation.
Double-check the data gathered by Marcial and to prove Marcials reliability.

Detailed Plan of Action:

Call Marcial for a meeting regarding the issue.


Discuss about the promotion.
Discuss and explain about the conditions for his promotion.
