Neonatal Abstinence Syndrome Prevention Organization Launches New Awareness
Campaign
By introducing an interactive role-playing game titled Mother Knows Best.

MALAYSIA, June 1, 2017 - Neonatal Abstinence Syndrome (NAS) has increased 5 times with
over 20,000 infants born with NAS, from the years 2000 to 2012. Dr. Travis Stork stated that
according to research, during the year 2016, one infant is born with NAS every 19 minutes.
Thus, Neonatal Abstinence Syndrome Prevention Organization (NASP) launched a new
campaign on 1st of June 2017 to spread awareness about NAS to the Malaysian public, by
introducing an interactive role-playing game titled Mother Knows Best.

Mother Knows Best is a text adventure game in collaboration with Herring Blue, the
creator of The Train. The game is based on the perspective of a pregnant woman, and
players are required to choose her life choices as she carries her unborn child. The game
would end with two endings; the birth of a healthy baby or a baby who has NAS.

An informative PSA video about NAS would be played after players have finished the game
to spread awareness about this illness. After the video, players are then able to make
donations to help babies with NAS to receive proper medical attention and pledge their
support to curb this issue by using #savehelppreventNAS on their social media.

NASP would also be uploading informative videos once a week on the official YouTube
channel (@NASP.org) to further spread awareness on NAS.

Mr. James Greenwood, Former Congressman and the President of Biotechnology Innovation
Organization said, The fact that the baby is born addicted to drugs should be a big red
flashing light that says danger. This is a serious problem that has to be addressed
immediately.
