GENERAL MEETING AGENDA, SEPTEMBER 19, 2017,
CABOTA CLUB, WINDSOR
1. FROM THE CHAIR
- Meeting Called to Order at 7:07 pm
- Welcome members and guests
- Motion to accept minutes of June 20, 2017 by Vivan Klinck. All in favour.
- Congrats to Dennis, Nancy and Susan for placing first second and third,
respectively, and Mariano and Donovon who received honourable mentions in the
Canada 150 exhibition at the Gibson Gallery
- Paintings submitted to the Canada 150 exhibition can also be put in the Your
Canada ARA Juried Show

2. BUSINESS REPORT #1

Membership (Teryy)
- 63 members currently
- There will be a lottery for a $40 gift card for re-newing members for the 2018 year
- If you re-new your membership in October, you will get 3 ballots towards the
draw, re-new in November and youll receive 2 ballots for the draw, re-new in
December and youll receive 1 ballot for the draw.
- The lottery will be drawn in January 2018.
- Also, encourage family, friends, and neighbours to join the ARA and youll receive
a $5 Tims card for each new member!

3. BUSINESS REPORT #2

Show Report (Mariano)

- The gallery will be closed from Mon. Wed., let Mariano know if you want to hold
a workshop/group painting session during these times
- Annual Art Show and Juried Show has been advertised online, Maria and Mariano
will continue to promote the event
- Date of exhibtion: Friday Oct. 20th Sunday Nov. 12th 2017
- IMPORTANT DATES :
October 1st - written statement for works submitted to the Juried Your
Canada Show must be sent to Mariano

Oct. 13 - DEADLINE for registration
Oct. 18th (noon-5:30pm) - artwork DROP-OFF
Oct. 19th - hanging and set-up (starts at 10am)
Oct. 20th - OPENING RECEPTION (7pm -9pm)
 Nov. 12th - Take down (starts at 4pm)
- Artwork must be properly framed or wired (see Item #4: Dos and Dont of Hanging
Your Artwork)
- All participating members must contribute at least two shifts (contact Mariano)
- Please fill out an Artistss artwork list and submit it with your registration
- Volunteers needed for set-up and take-down (Oct. 19th and Nov 12th/13th)

4. DOS AND DONT OF HANGING YOUR ARTWORK (Colleen)
- Wire should be attached to the artwork 1/3 of the way down from top of painting
(same with a frame)
- Use D-rings to attach framing wire (no saw tooth hangers or eye screws, it will fall
off/ damage your wall)
- Use pan head screws (round top)
- Heat strink tubing can be used to properly secure the ends of the wrapped wire
- Wire should be wrapped around D ring, over, around andmtie, then trim
- You can use stainless steel, deep sea rigging wire found at Canadian Tire in the
fishing section for framing wire
- Chops a framing store in London will also carry framing matrials
- Matting should be acid free (esp. in the core), as well as linen tape used for
framing (do not use masking tape, duct tape, etc.)
- Crystal clear bags are good for cards
- Make sure your artwork is properly packaged when dropping it off

5. NEW BUSINESS:
- Hawk Fest 2017, at Holiday beach, is this September, opportunity to paint
outdoors and get an up close look at many different birds. More info at:

- Studio Tour Sat./Sun. September 23/24, check out the many ARA artists
partcipating in this local event
- Dennis will be holding a multi-focus workshop/design experimental workshop,
about harmony in a painting. Only 6 spots left, dates are Oct 21st and 22nd from 1-
4. $45 for the two day workshop, contact Dennis for more info.
 - Art Show and Sale Colony of Artists will be held Sept 23rd 10am-5pm and 24th
11am-4pm at the Tecumseh Area Historical Society (12340 Tecumseh Road East).
Artists include Vicky, Heather, April, Patrick, Peter, Susan, Diane and Elaine.

6. BUSINESS REPORT #3
Treasurer Report (Mariano)
- Currently under budget
- 90% of expenses are for insurance and rental
- Cost of membership will remain the same ($40)
- Reviewed budget. No questions, approved.
