RE: SOQ Graphic Design Services

Dear Mr. Harary,

Gates + Associates is pleased to submit our qualifications. As you can see in the attached
materials, we have extensive experience providing high quality professional services for the
public sector.

We feel Gates + Associates, with our selected team, is uniquely qualified to provide the diverse
range of services you may need over the next two years including, graphic design services and
community outreach.

Our graphic capabilities are essential in our communication of design concepts, spatial
relationships, project information and public awareness. We have specialized in the art of
presenting graphic information to the public that can be informative and understandable, even if
it is complex in nature.

We pride ourselves in our branding efforts for every project. We have the ability to create logos,
signage programs and wayfinding elements that all demonstrate an overall theme. This technique
helps to create unity of concepts and spaces.

As a 34 person firm we are able to utilize a breadth of resources to respond in a timely (or
immediate) basis. Gates + Associates is located in San Ramon, California where services will be
performed. We have the ability to use technology to facilitate communication, but do not see the
two hour commute as an obstacle to successful coordination.

We feel we can be a strong asset to your project teams and look forward to working with you.
Should you have any questions please feel free to contact me at 925.736.8176 x 230, or at

Gates + Associates is a 34-person Landscape Architecture, Urban Design and Land Planning firm lo-
cated in San Ramon. Established in 1977, we became a Women-Owned Business Enterprise (WBE) in
2008. Our lasting success is due to our unique blend of strong design skills, sensitivity to the influence
of environmental and cultural settings, understanding of construction realities, and true commitment to
consensus building.

Communication, Facilitation, Outreach & Coordination

Our team has extensive experience working with diverse stakeholders who bring a variety of perspectives
to a planning process. Over time we have mastered the art of drawing out key spatial, experiential and
programming elements from participant comments in a range of settings -meeting, interview or workshop.
We have a carefully developed, process-oriented approach that highlights the talents of our graphics
team, as well as group facilitation techniques, to effectively communicate messages, elicit feedback and
work toward consensus building. We believe in building the support of stakeholders through inclusion.
Our communications and facilitation skills also encompass coordination with various agencies with inter-
ests in a project. Frequently different City departments and outside agencies may have differing view-
points or priorities. Police and fire departments needs must be considered and integrated, and CEQA
requirements must be addressed. Gates is frequently asked to facilitate these processes because of our
strength in articulating the issues. We are comfortable making presentations to public Boards and Com-
missions. Our staff has the graphic compatibilities to develop materials which clearly illustrate the issues.

Signage & Wayfinding Expertise

Gates + Associates is committed to placemaking through innovative, high quality, and environmentally
sensitive design. To each design, we bring an understanding of the way in which a space is experienced
in order to conceive a design that is memorable and unique. Our wayfinding specialist has extensive
experience in the design of signage systems for local municipalities, campuses, resorts and commercial
projects. She brings with her a history of working on large international projects, including Mall of the
Emirates in Dubai, Kiley Ranch in Sparks, Nevada, impressive retail centers including San Joses Santa-
na Row and rural cities like Turlock, California. Our in-depth experience with the wayfinding development
process, from the design phase through the sign fabrication, provides a real world understanding of the
cost, implementation and maintenance implications of design decisions. Our in-house artistic expertise
allows us to propose innovative cost-saving measures, such as using off-the-shelf materials customized
with our own artwork.
Gates + Associates has developed themes and brands for a range of small to large-scale projects -
from pocket parks to mixed-use developments to entire municipalities. This experience provides a wealth
of resources to support and facilitate this project.
