KATIE ADULT DAY CENTER POLICIES AND PROCEDURES

SUBJECT: CPR

POLICY: Staff will honor orders regarding CPR. A staff member, trained in CPR
will be available in the Center during all hours of operation and on
outings as listed below.

PROCEDURE:
1. A person trained in basic first aid and certified in cardiopulmonary resuscitation, and
the treatment of obstructed airways must be present at all times:
(1) in the center when participants are present;
(2) in a vehicle being used by the center to transport participants; and
(3) with participants on field trips or other activities conducted by the center away
from the center site.

2. As part of the intake process, the participant/representative will be asked if there is


an Advance Directive and/or Medical order related to CPR and other life sustaining
treatment.
If no order or Advance Directive has been made, the
participant/representative will be provided with information regarding the
POLST.
If an Advance Directive or POLST is in place, the documentation or the
document will be entered into the participant record.
If an Advance Directive is in place but not a medical order, or if an Advance
Directive and Order are not consistent, the individual will be encouraged to
discuss with their physician and to provide the Center with a current order.
3. If no order is in place limiting treatment, and a person is found unresponsive, CPR
will be initiated and EMS activated.
If there is an advance directive and signed POLST documents, the content will be reviewed for
consistency in requested preferences.
