4. Aoto Gang Jobs [--AOTO--]
---------------------------------------------------------------------------
The Aoto gang offers some very risky jobs although the pay can be good, the
results can be unpredictable. The pickpocket task for example I find very
difficult to get consistent results from. You also have to be quite
inventive
with your threatening in order to squeeze money from the people on the
collect
money missions. Not to mention that working hard for the Aoto gang will not
make you the most popular guy/girl in town, with either the Magistrates or
the
Townspeople.

a) Pickpocket - 400/500 mon

---------------------------
This mission type can either be a real pain in the arse or a piece of cake
depending on how willing your target is to give up the goods. First take
note
of the type of person who you need to steal the item from and look up their
location below. Then head to the area and find your target, he will have a
purple name tag. Remember that movement is what takes time pass, so try and
keep your movement to a minimum. Make the target do the work! So how do you
do this? Simply by talking to him most of the time you can convince them to
walk the other way, so if they are heading away from you have a chat. As
for
actually getting the item, the best method I have found is to get as close
to
the target as possible and then speak to them. They will turn and face you,
now it is simply a case of pressing the analogue stick in the direction of
the
target. Rinse and repeat until you get your item, if he turns on you then
kill
him and return to the area. Strangely a clone will have taken his place!?!
Finally don't forget to conduct your 'business' well out of the way of the
other magistrates.

If you are told to steal from a Magistrate, they can be found in the
following
locations:
- Shikano-cho
- Otemon Gate

If you are told to steal from a Man, they can be found in:
- Otsuka-cho
- Kakinuma-cho

If Foreigners are your target head to:

- Numata-cho
- Amahara Shrine

b) Collect money - Amount collected minus 250 mon

-------------------------------------------------
Success in this job depends on several things because there are many ways
to
complete the job. If you want to just complete the job and are not worried
about pay then go for the compassionate options and receive 300 mon.
However
if it is pay you are after then go for 500 mon. If you don't mind being
hated
by the group the target belongs to, then go for 1000 mon. You must also
vary
your selections depending on how notorious you are with the group in
question
already. The selections that you must make are given below:

i) Mohei
Liked: ???
Unknown: 1-1-2
Hated: ???

ii) Abukichi
Liked: ???
Unknown: 2-2-2
Hated: ???

iii) Shida
Liked: ???
Unknown: 1-1-2
Hated: 2-1-1

c) Steal the parcel - 600/700 mon

---------------------------------
"The Aoto gang requested you steal a man's parcel by the Otemon Gate"

Head to the location that you have been given and search for the person
carrying the item. They will be easy to spot as they will be the only
civilian wearing a weapon in the area. Their name tag will also appear
purple
in colour when you get close. Talk to them and announce that you are going
to
take the item before you draw your sword. Then either kill them, or reduce
their health to a critical level where they will drop the item. Either
throw
them out of the way retrieve the item and flee or finish them and collect
the
spoils. Let your concience decide.

The man is dressed in a green/brown top and white torn trousers and carries
the following swords:
- Chigusa
- Dojima-no-tsuchisada
- Botan-yuki

d) Steal documents - 600/700 mon

--------------------------------
"The Aoto gang requested you steal a girl's secret documents in Amakaze-
cho"

Head to the location that you have been given and search for the person
carrying the item. They will be easy to spot as they will be the only
civilian
wearing a weapon in the area. Their name tag will also appear purple in
colour
when you get close. Talk to them and announce that you are going to take
the
item before you draw your sword. Then either kill them, or reduce their
health
to a critical level where they will drop the item. Either throw them out of
the way retrieve the item and flee or finish them and collect the spoils.
Let
your concience decide.

The girl carries the following swords on hard mode:

- Nemaki
- Burai-an
- Osorezan
- Mutsu-no-shirakane

e) Steal the money - 600/700 mon

--------------------------------

Head to the Edge of Town and find the merchant who is wandering around
carrying the item, he will have a purple name tag. Talk to them and tell
them
you are going to take the item, then dish out a Aoto style beating until
their
health gets low and they will drop the Moneybox. Now you can either pick up
the item and high tail it or finish them off. Once you are done head back
to
the Aoto Gang Headquarters to receive your pay.

The merchant carries the following swords on hard mode:

- Akabane
- Chugen
- Rengoku

f) Assassinate magistrate - 1000 mon

------------------------------------
"I've been asked to kill a magistrate in Kakinuma-cho"
You have to assassinate a rather stubborn magistrate who has some skill at
fighting, but shouldn't be much to worry about. Just head to the location
in
question and speak to the target first before you kill him for a better
samurai ranking. Watch out when he gets low on health as he will try to run
for his life, finish him and then return to the Headquarters for your pay.

Swords carried by the magistrate on hard mode:

- Tobikuchi-jitte
- HARUYUKI

Note that these types of jobs only seem to come up during the late night
and
early morning time periods

g) Assassinate thug - 1000 mon

------------------------------
"I've been asked to kill a thug at the Edge of Town by the Aoto Gang."
You have to assassinate a thug, dressed like the traveller characters at
the
Edge of Town. Shouldn't be much to worry about. Just head to the location
in
question and speak to the target first before you kill him for a better
samurai ranking. Watch out when he gets low on health as he will try to run
for his life, finish him before he gets the chance and then return to the
Aoto Gang Headquarters for your pay.

Swords carried by the gangster on hard mode:

- Oni-suzume
- Hyakumangoku
- Aun

Note that these types of jobs only seem to come up during the late night
and
early morning time periods

h) Assassinate samurai - 1000 mon

---------------------------------
"I've been asked to kill a samurai at Amahara Shrine by the Aoto Gang"
You have to assassinate a wild samurai who has some skill at fighting, but
shouldn't be much to worry about. Just head to Shikano-cho and dish out
some
justice to the homicidal maniac. Speak to the target first before you kill
him
for a better samurai ranking. Watch out when he gets low on health as he
will
try to run for his life, finish him before he gets the chance and then
return
to the Aoto Gang Headquarters for your pay.

Swords carried by the samurai on hard mode:

- Shinmei-engetsu
- Kannagi
Note that these types of jobs only seem to come up during the late night
and
early morning time periods

i) Kill the broker - 3000 mon

-----------------------------
"I've been asked to kill the job broker at the Magistrate's Office!"
This mission becomes available after you have completed 10 jobs for the
Aoto Gang successfully. You are asked to kill the Magistrate broker which
is no simple task. If you are not that confident in your ability or have a
crappy weapon, I highly recommend purchasing a Devil Mushroom to even the
odds. The broker will have an immense amount of life, and on normal mode
upwards, a great weapon too. The good news is that once you kill your
target,
you get to keep that weapon :D

So after you have made the appropriate preparations, head to the Aoto gang
headquarters and have a chat with the broker. During the fight if he is
using the Kanesada then always be on guard for his large combo attack. This
is your worst enemy in this fight as it breaks your guard on the
penultimate
hit and then does huge damage. You can prevent this by parrying one of the
previous hits, the first is a vertical and the second a horizontal. Watch
out
for his nasty defence breakers too and the heat build up on your own sword.
My final piece of advice is to keep calm and take your time. This is not a
quick fight, you will have to wear him down slowly. Once he falls, pick up
his
weapon and head back for your rather large reward.

Take note that no matter what your relationship with the Magistrates
before,
they will all hate your guts now. So watch your back, it be hard to walk
through any areas without a magistrate picking a fight with you. Not to
mention if you are low on health then you will get thrown in jail. Once
this
mission has been completed, you can do the 'Find the truth' mission at
Amahara
shrine but prepare for another tough fight.

The Magistrate broker carries the Kannagi on easy difficulty and the
Kanesada
on normal difficulty upwards.

j) Hunting - 1 mon per kill

---------------------------
"The Aoto Gang's requested that you attack the magistrates on duty."
This mission is on offer if you are not too popular with the Aoto Gang.

Head to any area you wish and kill, kill, kill as the man said. Expect to
gain
a pretty crappy reputation with everyone except the Aoto gang if you take
this
job.

k) Special Aoto Gang Story Jobs

-------------------------------
If you are a member of the Aoto gang and go to the headquarters at these
time
periods, then you will receive some special one off jobs worth 200 mon
reward
each. I think you have to have a friendly relationship with Kasumi to
receive
the one on the morning of the 25th.

-> Day 22 Late Night

-> Day 24 Morning

-> Day 25 Morning

---------------------------------------------------------------------------
5. Magistrate Jobs [--MAGI--]
---------------------------------------------------------------------------
The magistrates offer you some very shady jobs while you are in their
employ.
However they certainly pay you well for doing their dirty work. The
townspeople will not hate you quite as much as they did when you were an
Aoto
gang lackey. You should however prepare to become an enemy of the Aoto
gang,
be ready to be attacked by any of their henchmen as you wander around
Amahara.
The good news however is that should an Aoto goon pick a fight with you in
front of a magistrate he will shortly be freezing his sorry ass in jail.
Not
to mention there will be more of your Magistrate buddies on every corner to
put them there.

a) Collect Parcel - 300/400 mon

-------------------------------
This type of mission is really simple, just head to the location that you
were
told and search for a purple coloured parcel. The location will be random,
but
only cycles between a few spots in each area. Then just take it back to the
broker for your pay. Easy money!

Locations

Edge of Town
- In the garden area in front of the clinic
- In the area to the left of the clinic

Otemon Gate
- In the alley behind the guard station on the left
- Just inside guard station on the right

Numata-cho
- In front of the kitty shrine, next to the girl with the sick father
- In the area to the left close to the exit near the blacksmith's

Shikano-cho
- Inside the dojo compound, to the right of the gate as you enter
- Behind one of the boxes near the Dojo exit
- In the last doorway on your right near the exit opposite the entrance

Kakinuma-cho
- Next to the lamp, to the right of the entrance to the Inn
More locations coming soon.

b) Secret Delivery - 400/500 mon

--------------------------------
This type of mission involves you delivering some secret documents to a
contact in the location given to you. However you must also avoid the
attention of any Aoto gang pickpockets on the way. There are several ways
to
deal with the Aoto gang thugs, the first is just to do your best to run
around
and avoid then bumping into you. The second is to let them bump into you
and
steal the documents, and then immediately speak to them. This will result
in a
fight with the thief, kill him to get the documents back. Thirdly you can
speak to any aproaching thugs to get them to back off. Fourth, you can run
in
with your weapon out and kill anyone who gets in your way.

Finally, the easiest way to find your contact is to look at the status
screen.
Just look for the dark green dot hidden away in one of the little nooks,
and
that will be your man. Head to his location and give him the documents and
then return to the Magistrate's office for your pay.

c) Secret Dealings - 600/700 mon

--------------------------------
Head to the area that you are told and search for your contact. If the
location is Shikano-cho you will be looking for a magistrate; if it is
Numata-cho it will be a courtisan and Otsuka-cho will be a foreigner. They
will generally be hiding in one of the little nooks in the area, use the
status screen to find them quickly if you want. Before you give the contact
your item, make sure that you are withing kicking range. You can get them
to
do this for you by saying the "come over here" option first. Now give them
the
item, after they say "one, two, three..." they will either give you the
item
or try and make a run for it. If they try to run immediately do a quick
kick
and they will stop and fight. Kill them to retrieve the item and then
return
to the Magistrate's Office for your pay.

Alternatively you can just kill the contact for the item, but that isn't
too
sporting now is it?

Swords carried by the contacts on hard mode:

Magistrate Foreigner Courtesan
- ??? - Hebi-maru - Osorezan
- ??? - Tsuma-yoji - Yaso
- ??? - Hida-no-basho - Karasu-toge

d) Kill magistrate - 1000/1100 mon

----------------------------------
"I've been asked to rub out a magistrate outside Otemon Gate."
A strange job coming from the magistrates, no? You have to assassinate a
rather corrupt magistrate who has some skill at fighting, but shouldn't be
much to worry about. Just head to the location in question and speak to the
target first before you kill him for a better samurai ranking. Watch out
when
he gets low on health as he will try to run for his life, 'Execute the
corrupt
magistrate!' in Tenchu style and then return to the Magistrate's Office for
your pay.

Swords carried by the magistrate on hard mode:

- Akabane
- Chugen
- Kunishige

Note that these types of jobs only seem to come up during the late night
and
early morning time periods

e) Kill gangster - 1000/1100 mon

--------------------------------
"I've been asked to kill a gang member who will appear in Otsuka-cho."
You have to assassinate a gang member who has some skill at fighting, but
shouldn't be much to worry about. Just head to the location in question and
speak to the target first before you kill him for a better samurai ranking.
Watch out when he gets low on health as he will try to run for his life,
finish him before he gets the chance and then return to the Magistrate's
Office for your pay.

Swords carried by the gangster on hard mode:

- Sanmai-oroshi
- Mutsu-no-shirakane

Note that these types of jobs only seem to come up during the late night
and
early morning time periods

f) Kill samurai - 1000/1100 mon

--------------------------------
"I've been asked to rub out a samurai killing people in Shikano-cho"
You have to assassinate a wild samurai who has some skill at fighting, but
shouldn't be much to worry about. Just head to Shikano-cho and dish out
some
justice to the homicidal maniac. Speak to the target first before you kill
him
for a better samurai ranking. Watch out when he gets low on health as he
will
try to run for his life, finish him before he gets the chance and then
return
to the Magistrate's Office for your pay.

Swords carried by the samurai on hard mode:

- Burai-an
- Osorezan
- Kotetsu

Note that these types of jobs only seem to come up during the late night
and
early morning time periods

g) Kill the broker - 3000 mon

-----------------------------
"I've been asked to kill the job broker at the Aoto Gang headquarters!"
This mission becomes available after you have completed 10 jobs for the
magistrates successfully. You are asked to kill the Aoto gang broker which
is no simple task.

During the fight if he is
using the Murasame they keep your distance, which is no easy task given the
length of the thing! Most of his attacks are easy to parry though, which
just
means you have to watch out for his nasty defence breakers and the heat
build
up on your own sword. My final piece of advice is to keep calm and take
your
time. This is not a quick fight, you will have to wear him down slowly.
Once
he falls, pick up his weapon and head back for your rather large reward.

Take note that no matter what your relationship with the Aoto Gang before,
they will all hate your guts now. So watch your back...especially at night
when there are fewer magistrates around. Once this mission has been
completed,
you can do the 'Find the truth' mission at Amahara shrine but prepare for
another tough fight.

The Aoto gang broker carries the Kotetsu on easy difficulty and the
Murasame
on normal difficulty upwards.

h) Hunting - 1 mon per kill

---------------------------
"I've been asked to kill Aoto Gang members. Cut them all down!"
This mission is on offer if you are not too popular with the Magistrates.

Head to any area you wish and kill, kill, kill as the man said. Expect to
gain
a pretty crappy reputation with everyone except the Magistrates if you take
this job.

---------------------------------------------------------------------------
6. Amakaze Jobs [-AMAKAZ-]
---------------------------------------------------------------------------
Working for the townspeople is the least risky, however unfortunately the
pay
isn't great. On the plus side though the people will love you and give you
a
huge discount in their stores. Not to mention that warm feeling you get
from
helping people...or something like that.

a) Find the baby - 400/500 mon

------------------------------
This type of mission is simple if you can guess the clue, howvever as a
novice
to the game I can remember being completely baffled by some of the more
cryptic clues. Below is a list of many of the clues I have encountered in
the
game as well as where to find the baby. If you receive one of these it is
simply a case of going to the appropriate location, picking up the baby and
returning him safely to the job broker at Amakaze-cho for your reward. If
you
receive a clue that is not in the table below then head to an area of your
choice; I recommend the edge of town due to the lack of magistrates. Look
for
a suspicious character with a purple tag 'Man', speak to him and get him to
tell you where the baby is. You will have to question him the hard way, but
he will run off telling you where the baby is when his health gets low.
Then
simply head where he tells you and pick up the baby, then collect your
reward.
Then please email me with your findings...

b) Find the son - 200/300 mon

-----------------------------

Office"
The son will be in one of the following locations:

2) Go left after entering the main gate, proceed through the next gate and
look to your left by the lamp.
3) In between two of the storehouses in the main compound.

"I've been asked by the townspeople to stop some thugs in Amahara Shrine"
"I've been asked by the townspeople to stop some thugs in Kakinuma-cho"
You will have to head to the destination given and either kill people off
or
do enough damage so that they run off one by one until you get the message
that the riot has been controlled. Then you just have to collect your pay
before the time runs out. Try to avoid running around too much as this is
what
makes time pass. If you need advice on fighting multiple enemies then visit
the Dojo in Shikano-cho during the day and have a chat with the master.

f) Find Otama - 600/700 mon

---------------------------
"Find Otama, Otsuka-cho's most beautiful girl. She's been seen in Numata-
cho."
Go to Numata-cho find the foreigner, he will be labelled 'Shady Man'. Tell
him
to give back what he stole, then beat him up till he drops Otama. It's that
simple. For extra amusement after you have retrieved the kitten, sheath
your
sword and run to the nearest magistrate to get him arrested. Hehe! Don't
forget to collect your pay from Amakaze.

Swords carried by the Shady Man on hard mode:

- Hida-no-basho
- Tarojiro
- Sekkiseiki
g) Imawaya Treasure - 600/700 mon
---------------------------------
Go to the Edge of Town and find the Kidnapper and tell her to give back
what
she stole. Then beat her up till she drops the baby and retrieve it. Either
finish her off and grab her sword or run away back to Amakaze to collect
your
reward.

Swords carried by the Kidnapper:

- Kannagi
- Botan-yuki
- Shimei-engetsu

h) Find hair clip - 600/700 mon

target
will have a purple name tag above his head when you approach. Talk to him
first and say that you are here for revenge, then try to kill him as
quietly
as possible so as not to involve any other magistrates. When his life gets

Amakaze for your reward.

7. Foreigner Jobs [-FOREIG-]
---------------------------------------------------------------------------

During the evening time period, Foreigner can be found in various locations
around Otemon gate and will give you a mission. The pay is average but the
mission is very easy to complete.
a) Foreign Message - 400 mon
----------------------------
When receiving the mission take care to read what the message the foreigner
wants you to give to his wife is. It will be one of three options, but you
cannot look up what to say on the status screen, you must remember it. The
mission is to find his wife and deliver the message he gave you, she will
usually appear at whatever location you choose to visit next. She can be
easily identified as the running lady in foreign dress, she will also have
a
purple tag with the word 'Wife'. Simply talk to her and give her the
correct
message and then return to the foreigner to collect your reward. Note that
he may not be in the same position when you return to Otemon gate. He will
also give you 200 mon even if you get the message wrong, bonus!

---------------------------------------------------------------------------
8. Side Quests [--SIDE--]
---------------------------------------------------------------------------

a) Find the truth - 2000 mon

----------------------------
After you have completed the 'Kill the broker' mission for either the Aoto
Gang or the Magistrates, if you head to Amahara Shrine at night there will
be
a ronin wandering around with a purple name tag entitiled 'Killer'. If you
talk to him you will initiate a rather tough fight at which point the
killer's
identity becomes clear; it is Rakusui from the Shrine fights!

Tips for the fight: If he is just attacking then he tends to favour

horizontal
attacks, so parry accordingly. However if you see him powering up for a
defence breaker then either attack to interrupt him or get the hell out of
there; because if he hits you with the horizontal guard break and he is
using
the Momoge sword then you will be lucky to survive the follow up attack. In
general it is best to just keep your distance and be ready to guard for
horizontal attacks.

Swords carried by the Killer:

- Mutsu-no-shirakane
- Momoge

"Could this be true? The assassin says he was sent by the Magistrate
broker."

If you win then he will start spilling the beans on his employer and the
'Find
the truth' mission begins. Simply head to the appropriate broker and have a
word with the backstabber. You are then presented with two choices, kill
them
for the satisfaction of revenge or forgive them for the satisfaction of an
extra 2000 mon in your George Stobbart sized pockets.

For tips on fighting the brokers, see the appropriate 'Kill the broker'
mission.

b) Sword Informant
------------------
Coming Soon!
c) Girl in Numata-cho
---------------------
There is a girl who stands outside her sick father's house in Numata-cho at
all times of the day. If you talk to her she will say something about how
her
father would feel a little better if he had ???. Where ??? will be a fairly
obvious clue about one of the items in the game. If you return to her with
the
item that was hinted in your inventory, you will be given the option to
give
it to her. If you give a total of 10 items to her then her father will be
cured! The father can then be found at Amahara Shrine at any time of day
and
he is quite skilled with a sword. If you decide to fight him, prepare for a
tough fight. On hard mode prepare for a long fight too, even with a high
attack modifier and a devil mushroom or sword oil it can take a long time
to
whittle down his massive life bar.

Swords carried by the father:

Normal - Kiyomitsu 100% chance
Hard - Rinne 100% chance
Finishing Blow - Kiyomitsu 100% chance

d) Kotsubo at Amahara Shrine - 'Mini Tsubohachi'

------------------------------------------------
If you visit Amahara shrine during morning, afternoon or evening whilst not
on
a mission then you can bet and take part in a little competition. Basically
you put some money up front with Kotsubo and he calls on one of his buddies
for you to fight with. If you win, then you get double your money back, Woo
hoo! Initially the bets start off fairly small and you can only fight once
per
time period but as time continues and you win more fights the initial bet
goes
up. Which can make this side quest a nice little earner.

Kotsubo has four buddies he may call upon:

The Count - Appears in the Morning

----------------------------------
A piece of cake to beat, just watch out for his leg sweep move. Otherwise,
parry + slash + combo, rinse and repeat.

Manju, the Man of Mystery - Appears in the afternoon

----------------------------------------------------
Man of mystery? I thought it was Austin Powers...anyway...Manju is usually
armed with a fencing sword which makes him very quick and powerful. He
tends
to favour horizontal attacks, so parry them and follow up with your
favourite
combo. Watch out for his guard breaks though.

Oemaru - Appears in the Evening

-------------------------------
Big and strong, with a lot of life. Take your time, parry and attack when
you
can but don't take risks - his attack can really hurt. Make sure that you
stay
away from his breaks too.
Rakusui - Appears at random
---------------------------
He comes armed with a red sheathed down stance sword but shouldn't be too
much trouble. Keep your distance and wait for him to use his vertical combo
or stab attacks which are both very easy to parry.

Killer Taronosuke - Appears at random

-------------------------------------
This guy comes armed with dual daito and means business. Parry as much as
possible because his swords will build up your heat meter all too quickly.
Keep calm and parry the correct attacks and he'll soon be running off with
his tail between his legs.

After you complete the 'Find the truth' mission and kill you would be
assassin
Rakusui will no longer appear as an opponent and Kotsubo will mention he is
missing...but whether there is any more to this sub quest I do not know. If
you find anything, please send me an email at TheManFromEngland@hotmail.com

e) Dojo, in Shikano-cho
-----------------------
If you visit the dojo during the day then you can take part in a number of
training exercises as well as challenging the master, Tessho.

f) Enlarging your sword safe

----------------------------
The carpenters wife can be found outside the blacksmith's at night in
Numata-cho. She can get your sword safe enlarged up to a maximum capacity
of
100 swords in steps of 10 a time. Be warned however that this process can
be
very costly, the last upgrade costs a hefty 8400 mon!

g) Appearances of Ichikichi, Mihei and Santa

--------------------------------------------
If you hate these guys as much as I do, then you may be interested when and
where they make appearances so that you can avoid them/beat them up at your
discretion. These are not cut scenes, but merely periods of time where they
can be seen wandering around the given location. Be warned though, killing
any
of them off may result in a change in your storyline.

- 24th Afternoon, Kakinuma-cho

9. Tips and Tricks [--TIPS--]
---------------------------------------------------------------------------

Interesting bits and bobs:

- Take a look at the wanted poster at the Magistrate's Office, the picture
on display cycles through characters from the original Way of the Samurai
including:
- Murasaki
- Dona dona
- Shiretoko

- The kitty shrine in Numata-cho can be found next to the girl with the
sick
father. You can pick up the 'Happy Cat' with the square button and then
either bash people over the head or throw it and it will make a "Meow!"
sound.

- You can check your popularity with any of the three factions by talking
to:
- One of the three old ladies next to your house in Otsuka-cho
- The Aoto gang thug in the main room of the Aoto gang mansion
- The magistrate in the armoury room of the Magistrate's Office main
building
