Description of Valued Performance Project

After reviewing the lesson on photosynthesis, I will begin the discussion of the
instructions of this project. My fifth-grade students will create a 3-D plant cell. With this 3-D
plant cell, the students will also write to explain what the plants obtain to grow, which is air and
water, as well as what role does the plant cell have in photosynthesis. Students will have 2
weeks to complete this project. This project can be completed using many different materials. It
will be assessed by the rubric included in this document.

Directions for Valued Performance or Product

You are going to create a 3-D Plant Cell. This cell needs to be labeled with these items:

Cell Membrane
Cell Wall
Chloroplast
Vacuole
Cytoplasm
Nucleus

You may use any materials to create your 3-D Plant cell. Some of these materials may
include but are not limited to:

Spaghetti noodles
Play-do
Styrofoam
Markers
Jell-O
Pipe cleaners
Model magic
Craft puff balls

You will need to type up an explanation for what each of the labeled items are the plant
cell are and what their job is in the plant cell. You may use bulleted points to explain the
job of the labeled items. Also, you should explain what job plant cells have in
photosynthesis. This explanation should not be longer than a complete paragraph,
which is 7-10 sentences. Be sure to check for grammar and spelling errors. Your
paragraph should answer the question I have prompted you with. You can research the
answer, but you must cite from where you found your answer even if it was from the
textbook. Use MLA format.

Be CREATIVE with your project! This should be a fun project to complete. I want to see
your creative minds shine through. DO NOT wait until the last minute to complete this
project.

If you turn this project in late, I will deduct 5 points for every day that it is late. This is an
important project. Again, DO NOT PROCRASTINATE!

Remember that I am always here to answer questions.
