POWER GENERATION & WATER

Procontrol P13
I/O Card replacement with P13 Configurator
Quick guide

1. SUMMARY
The new generation of the Procontrol P13 cards are designed for best flexibility and customers bene-
fit to fulfill turbine control system requirements. The ABB P13 Configurator tool makes it fast and
easy to setup the new cards to replace older cards on a one to one basis.
This document guides you step by step through the configuration of a new I/O card.
If you have any more questions or need support for the procedure, please contact your local ABB
Power Generation service team or the global Procontrol P13 service team in Switzerland
(plantcontrol.support@ch.abb.com).

2. MATERIAL NEEDED

QUICK GUIDE

2. Plug the P13 I/O Programming Cable into a suitable port of the PC and note down the port num-
ber of the serial port used.
Note: The IPC03a has an integrated USB-to-Serial converter and the correct driver should be in-
stalled automatically after the first connection to the PC. A new virtual COM port should be avail-
able afterwards and the port number must be noted down for later usage. If the automatic in-
stallation of the driver fails, please download the driver from http://www.ftdichip.com/Driv-
ers/VCP.htm and install manually.
3. Plug the phone jack connector into the new I/O card.
4. Power up the new replacement I/O card by inserting it into the Procontrol P13 rack.
Note: Every newly delivered card from ABB is by default in factory reset mode (no address as-
signed and all channels disabled). It will not transmit on the local bus after power-up. Any devia-
tion from that will be clearly stated on the card/package.
Attention: When using a card from local storage it might have already an address assigned and
inserting it in a P13 rack can severely disturb the running process. In such case, the I/O card
should be configured in a dedicated engineering rack only.
5. Start the ABB P13 Configurator tool.
6. Select File New: Choose the card to be configured.
7. Select Configuration Communication Settings: Enter the used COM port noted down earlier.
8. Select Configuration Scan Port Settings: The serial communication parameters are automati-
cally detected.
9. Configure each channel by double-clicking on the respective line in the main window. The availa-
ble options depend on the type of card used, e.g.:
a. Local bus address(es)
b. Channel parameters
c. Enable/Disable
10. Carefully check, that all settings are correct, especially the local bus address.
Attention: Any wrong setting could severely disturb the running plant process up to a trip.
11. Select Configuration Download for storing the new settings on the I/O card and enabling oper-
ation.
It is advised to save the parameters as a file on the PC for later use or to check the settings later
without connecting to the respective HW itself.
While connected to the card, you can also use other functions of the ABB P13 Configurator tool like
reading of live values, forcing of channels and more.
