SUBJECT: BREAKAGE OF COPYBOARD GLASS
Outline
Pressing the RDF with excessive force when making a copy of a thick document introduces the possibility of
glass breakage depending on the impact of the pressure on the glass. To prevent this, the structure and shape
of the RDF mount and RF support of the copier main unit and the shape of the rear cover and upper left stay
of the copier main unit have been modified.
Details
[Phenomena]
The copyboard glass can, at times, break if thick documents such as books are placed on it and the RDF is
closed and forcefully pressed down for copying.
[Cause]
Because the RDF support cannot rise when the RDF is pressed down, the downward pressure gets concentrated
to a relatively small area of the copyboard glass, causing undue stress in the area to result in the breakage of the
copyboard glass as stated above.
[Factory measure]
1) A bearing has been added to the RDF mount of the copier main unit and RDF support so that the RDF
support can rise when the RDF is pressed; the shape of the rear cover has been modified in that
connection.
2) A portion of the upper left stay has been extended so that the left side of the copyboard glass is
sufficiently supported when the RDF is closed.
