Half Year Results.

Lafarge has set up a new plant of boral gypsum. It’s


the first gypsum plant and a training and technical centre
at Rajasthan (khushkhera). The plaster boards used for
this project are 100% recyclable.
There has been a strong increase in operating results.
The operating results rise strongly in the first half +53%
in emerging markets.
The orascum acquisition ns u strong position in
emerging markets maintains the group’s growth
dynamic.

QUESTIONS

The person whom I interviewed is Mr. Milan Thakkar, a


Senior Manager in the Human Resources Department. Of
Lafarge, India.

Q1. What is the market share of your company in India?

Ans: We have a market share in the Indian market


comprising of 17% to 20%.

Q2. According to you what is the importance of an H.R


department in the firm?

Ans: H.R is very important for any firm or organization


as it promises efficient and smooth functioning of all the
departments. It is this department the selection of the
workers and to solve their problems. This department
developing, training, retaining the employees and
providing a willing work force and so it forms as the
back bone of an firm or organization.
Q3. How many H.R executives do you have in your
company?

Ans: We have 3 senior managers and a couple of H.R


managers working under them, approx. 23managers. We
work as a team and handle the organization’s H.R
department at the all India level.

Q4. Since when has H.R evolved in your organization ?

Ans: Since the time of inception i.e. 1999.

Q5. What are the various kinds of incentive plans that


you offer?

Ans: We offer group incentives like no accident plan to a


plant on quarterly basis and group incentives plan like
ganga. Yamuna, kaveri and narmada and even provide
nominative amounts like 1st price, 2nd price and 3rd price
on individual basis.

Q6. How do you involve participative management in


your organization?

Ans: We conduct yearly meeting in which they discuss


team KA’S which they conduct for teams.
Q7. What are major qualifications and selection
processes for hiring employees in Lafarge,India ?

Ans: We have interviews and campus selection processes


and two types of employees i.e. blue collared employees
who are on contract basis and white collared employees
wherein a minimum qualification of graduation is
required and the employee should be excellent in
operation/sales etc. and for higher roles we prefer MBA.
The selection process constitutes for a number of
rounds where the 1st round is pre-screening round, 2nd is
technical round- specifically with regards to cement, 3rd-
another H.R. round.
For campus selection we look out students specially
for the technical department.

Q8. How do you involve participative management in


your organization?

Ans: We conduct yearly meeting in which they discuss


team KA’S which they conduct for teams.

Q9.How do you motivate your employees ?

Ans: We motivate employees by providing incentives,


hay grades and promotion policies.
