UPDATE FROM THE VESTRY

D
ear Friends at Christ Church,


Thanks be to God! Father Alistair Morrison will serve as our
part-time Rector starting on November 1st. All of your prayers INSIDE
and all of the work by the Search Committee have made this
Vestry Update 1
possible, and I feel so blessed, as I am sure you will also. I think I
speak for the entire Vestry when I say it has been an Psalm 8 2
educational and challenging year, leading up to a most

successful outcome.

Alistair, as he prefers to be addressed, has been our Supply Priest
on many occasions, which resulted in his getting to know us and Events 6

vice versa. Eventually, both sides decided we were a good fit,

although I must admit that I had high hopes early on in the
process. Alistair once told me I was relentless, referring to my


repeated calls to sign him up for Supply last winter.

Alistair is a resident of Johnstown, where he assists his wife, Mtr. Laurie Garrimone, Rector of St.
Johns, in all aspects of a very ambitious ministry. He is from the Diocese of Down and Dromore in
Northern Ireland and started visiting the Diocese of Albany in 2010. He and Bishop Love will meet
soon to complete his acceptance into the Episcopal Church, which is the final step before he
can be officially assigned to Christ Church.

Alistair will be our Supply Priest in October on the 8th and the 29th, before coming to us in
November. I urge you to come meet him and listen to his inspiring sermons.

O
LORD, our Sovereign,
how majestic is your name in all the earth!
You have set your glory above the heavens.
2 Out of the mouths of babes and infants
you have founded a bulwark because of your foes,
to silence the enemy and the avenger.
3 When I look at your heavens, the work of your
fingers,
the moon and the stars that you have established;
4 what are human beings that you are mindful of
them,
mortals that you care for them?
5 Yet
you have made them a little lower than God,
and crowned them with glory and honor.
6 You have given them dominion over the works of
your hands;
you have put all things under their feet,
7 all sheep and oxen,
and also the beasts of the field,
8 the birds of the air, and the fish of the sea,
whatever passes along the paths of the seas.

Psalm 8 was composed in praise to God the
creator; to praise Him for all the beauty and
magnificence of creation. But it also talks
about our humanity; how insignificant we can
feel in comparison to all of creation. When we
look at the vast expanse of creation, we
wonder how God could be concerned about
people who keep disappointing him. Yet we
read God created us a little lower than He
himself and the angels. The next time you
question your worth remember God has
declared how valuable we are to Him.
God also gave us tremendous authority to be
in charge of all of His creation. But with great
authority comes great responsibility. As He
values us his expectation is that we value, love
and care for his creation. If we own pets or
animals we have legal authority to do with it as
we wish but we also have the God given
responsibility to love, care, feed and provide
shelter for them.
This year you may have noticed we did not
have our Annual Blessing of the Animals. To be
absolutely honest there was so much
happening in October I requested we not hold
it this year as dear it is to me. So please save
09/23/2018 when our Annual Blessing of the
Animals will again be held, God willing, at the
Hannaford in Esperance.
Until that time, if you have a pet or animal
which you feel is in need of a blessing for any
reason please let me know.
