OvervieweAMWorkManagement
Theworkorderisthefoundationforallmaintenanceorganizations.Workordersdefinetheresourcesanditemsthatareneededtoconductwork.Theycan
automaticallygeneratethroughtheuseofPreventiveMaintenanceSchedules,theissueofaninventoriedrebuildable,breachofqualityresults,ormanually
generatedasaroutineworkorder.TheseworkordersarethenreviewedandsharedwithOperationstoproduceanestimatedschedule.
OracleEnterpriseAssetManagementintegrateswithOracleQuality.UseQualitycollectionplanstopredefinerequiredfeedbackinformationthatmustbe
enteredintoOracleEnterpriseAssetManagement,uponaworkorder'scompletion.Forexample,datatocollectmayincludeinspectionpointsforasset
numberanddowntimevariables.Ifavarianceisrecordedtothequalityplan,aworkrequestorworkorderiscreated.Youcandefinequalitycollectionplans
directlyontheworkorder,ordefinethemasattributesofanactivitytoultimatelydefaultintofutureworkordersthataregeneratedforspecificassetnumber
andactivitycombinations.
Foreachworkorder,theestimatedcostsaggregate,fromtheassociatedBOMandresources,todevelopacostingprofileforthecurrentworkorder.Youcan
useCostingProfilesforfutureBudgetingandForecasting.
Foreachworkorder,theactualcostsaggregateduringtheworkorder'slifecycle.Thesecostsrollup,basedonthehierarchyofthecurrentworkorder's
associatedassetnumber.Viewtheseactualcostsbyperiodatatransactionleveloratasummarylevel.Costscanrollup,basedonthehierarchyofwork
orders.Youcanviewthecosts(bothactualandestimates)byperiod,atatransactionorsummarylevel.
Thischapterisdividedintothefollowingsections:

OracleEnterpriseAssetManagementworkordersarecreatedforassetsandrebuildableinventoryitems.Theyaredefinedmanually,orgenerated
automaticallybasedonascheduledactivity.Ifyouattachanactivitytoamanuallycreatedworkorder(normallytheroleofaPlanner),theworkorderinherits
theactivity'sattributes,suchasthemaintenanceBOM,maintenanceroute(operations),attachments,qualityplans,costinformation,andschedulingrules.
Whenpreplannedworkordersarecreatedforassets,theactivityinformationassociatedwiththeworkorder'scurrentassetnumberautomaticallyattaches
materialandresourcerequirementinformationtotheworkorder.
Youcanprintworkpackets(workorderswithattachments)throughanAutovueserverusingtheEnterpriseAssetManagementorMaintenanceSuperUser
responsibility.

RoutineworkordersarenormallycreatedbyaplannerfromtheMaintenanceWorkbench(See:UsingtheMaintenanceWorkbench),andarealsocreatedusing
amenuoption.Materialandresourceplanning(See:OverviewofPlanningandScheduling)isusedateachstatusoftheroutineworkorder(See:eAMWork
OrderStatuses).
Tomanuallycreateaworkorder
1.NavigatetotheFindWorkOrderswindow(WorkOrders>WorkOrders).
Note:Thisfunctionisavailableforthoseuserswithresponsibilitiesandrolesthatincludefunction,EAM_WO_DETAILS_MODE,withtheirassociated
menu.Otherwise,youcanonlyviewworkorders,andcannotupdateassociatedassethierarchy,workorderhierarchy,material,resource,operation,
cost,collectionplanresults,workrequest,andattachmentinformation.See:ImplementingFunctionSecurity, OracleApplicationsSystemAdministrator's
GuideSecurity .
2.ChooseNew.
WorkOrder
Theheaderinformationdisplaysgeneralinformationabouttheassetnumberandthetypeofworkrequired.
3.TheWorkOrdernumberisassigned,butyoucanupdateit.
4.Enteranassetnumberrequiringmaintenance.Theassetgroupdefaults(See:DefiningAssetNumbers).
5.SelectanAssetActivity.Onlyassetactivitiesassociatedwiththisassetnumberareavailable.
Note:Ifthisworkorderwaspreviouslycreated,youcanaddanassetactivity,aslongastheworkorderisatanUnreleasedorDraftstatus,oran
assetactivitywasnotpreviouslydefined.Ifanytasks,material,orresourcerequirementsexist,thesemustbedeletedbeforeaddinganassetactivityto
anexistingworkorder.
Afterselectinganassetactivity,theassociatedmaintenanceBOM(material)(See:SettingUpMaintenanceBillsofMaterial)andmaintenanceroute
(resources),associatedwiththeactivity(See:DefiningMaintenanceRoutes),attachtotheworkorder.Afteranassetactivityissavedtoaworkorder,
youcannolongerchangeordeleteit.
6.EnteraClasscodetorepresentthecharge(expense)accountsassociatedwiththeassetnumber.Thisdefaultsfromtheassetnumber,butyoucan
updateit.
SelectamaintenanceWIPAccountingClassthatcontainsanencumbranceaccountifwanttouseencumbranceaccounting.
7.EntertheStatus.Forexample,Unreleased,Released,OnHold,andDraft.Certaintransactionsupdatethisstatusautomatically,includingWorkOrder
Completion,forexample(See:eAMWorkOrderStatuses).
8.ThePendingcheckboxvaluedetermineswhethertheworkorderhasreachedthestatusaboveorisstillpending,duetoworkflow.Thisvalueissetby
theWorkOrderWorkflowApprovalprocess.Ifthecheckboxisclear,theStatusreflectsthecurrentstate.Ifthecheckboxisselected,theStatus
reflectsadesiredtargetstatethatisnotyetreachedduetopendingactivity,suchasaworkflowapprovalthatisstillinprogress.
9.IfthisisachildworkorderinaworkordernetworkandParentChildispopulatedintheRelationshipTypefield,theparentworkorderispopulatedin
thisfield.
10.TheRelationshipTypefieldindicatesthetypeofRelationshipassociatedwiththeworkorder.ValidrelationshipsareParentChild,EndtoStart
Dependency,Cost,andFollowupWork.Managecomplexmaintenancejobsthroughthesefourtypesofworkorderrelationships.See:WorkOrder
Relationships.
ParentChild:Thisrelationshipenablesanetworkofworkorders,whichincludesonetoplevelworkorderthatdefinesthetimelineofallits
childrenworkorders.Thestartandenddatesofthechildrenworkordersarewithinthestartandenddatesoftheparentworkorder.Achild
workordercanbeparenttoanotherworkorder.Oneparentcanhavemultiplechildren,butonechildcanhaveasingleparent.Therecanbean
infinitenumberofparentchildworkorderlevels,withintheParentChildrelationship.
EndtoStartDependency:Youcancreateworkorderswithschedulingdependencyrelationships(includingchildsiblingworkorders).Forexample,
oneworkorder'sscheduledstartdateisdependentonanotherworkorder'scompletion.Withthisrelationship,thenextworkordercannotstart
untilthepriorworkorderiscompleted.
Cost:Youcanrollthechildworkordercostsintotheparentworkorder,forreportingpurposes.Youcanbasethecostrollup,withinahierarchy,
onschedulingrelationships.Schedulingrelationshipsarenotrequiredtorollupcostswithinahierarchy.Youcancreateacostreportinghierarchy
thatisdifferentfromtheschedulinghierarchy.
FollowupWork:YoucancreateaworkorderforthecurrentcapitalassetnumberorRebuildableItem,whileexecutingworkfortheasseton
anotherworkorder.Forexample,asecondproblemwiththeassetisdiscoveredwhileexecutingaworkorder.Afollowupworkorder,associated
withtheoriginalworkorder,iscreatedfortheissue.Thisisindependentofschedulingorcostrelationships.
11.IntheScheduledDatesregion,entertheworkorder'sscheduledStartdateifitisbasedonaforwardschedule.Theschedulingprocessusesthisdate
asastartingpointtocalculatethescheduledenddateanddurationforallocatedresourcesandmaterial.Ifthematerial/resourcesarenotavailableby
thisdate,theschedulingprocessmovesthestartdateforward.
12.EnterascheduledCompletiondateforbackwardscheduling.Thisdateindicatestherequestedendbydateforthework.Theschedulingprocessuses
thisdateasastartingpointtocalculatethescheduledstartdateanddurationforallocatedresourcesandmaterial.Ifthematerialandresourcesare
notavailablebythatdate,theschedulingprocessmovesthestartdatebackwardstoensurecompletionbytherequiredenddate.
Note:Actualdatesareenteredatoperationandworkordercompletion.ScheduleddatesarecalculatedbytheEnterpriseAssetManagementscheduler
ifyouhaveOracleProductionSchedulingenabled(See:OverviewofSettingUp, OracleProductionSchedulingUser'sGuide

schedulercalculatesthedates.

17.TheShutdownTypedefaultsfromtheactivity.Thishelpstheplannergroupworkordersthatmayrequireshutdowns,sothattheyareplannedtogether.
18.IftheFirmcheckboxisselected,planningandschedulingdoesnotautomaticallyadjusttheschedule,regardlessofmaterialorresourceavailability
OverviewofeAMPlanningandScheduling.Thischeckboxdefaultsasselectedorcleared,dependingontheAutoFirmonReleaseandAutoFirmon
Createcheckboxsettings,establishedintheEnterpriseAssetManagementParameterssetupforthecurrentorganization(See:DefiningeAM

IftheFirmcheckboxisselected,youcanstillmanuallyreschedulearesourceontheworkorder,therebyupdatingthedatesonitscorresponding
operationandworkorder.
19.OptionallyselecttheNotificationRequiredcheckbox.
20.OptionallyselecttheTagoutRequiredcheckboxtoindicatethattheAreamustbesecuredforoperationsrequiredtoexecutethisworkorder.Tagsare
generallyprintedandplacedonanasset,warningtheplantthatitisshutdownandshouldnotbestarted.Thischeckboxhelpstheplannerisolatethose
jobsthatrequireatagout.

Theoperationswithinaworkorderdonotneedtobecompletetocompleteaworkorder.However,thedateyoucompleteaworkordermustbegreaterthan

Youcancapitalizepartorallofthecostsincurred,whilemaintaininganasset.Theasset'sbookvalueandusefullifeincrementwiththeadditionalvalue,
withinOracleFixedAssets.Accountantsanalyzethemaintenancecosthistorytodecidewhichcoststocapitalize.Youcanidentifytheworkordersthat
increaseanasset'svalue.Youcancapitalizeonlythecostsofworkordersatthe CompleteNoCharges Closed
or statuses.
Whendefiningamaintainedassetnumber,youcanoptionallyenterFixedAssetinformationtoassociateaFixedAssetCategoryandFixedAssetnumberwith
themaintainedassetnumber,ifOracleFixedAssetsisinstalled.See:DefiningAssetNumbers.
Tocapitalizeworkordercosts
1.NavigatetotheFindWorkOrderswindow(BillingandCapitalization>WorkOrderCapitalization).
2.Queryoneormoreworkorderstocapitalize.
a.Youcannarrowyoursearchcriteria,usingthefieldsatthetopofthewindow.
Forexample,youcanenteraspecificworkorder,assetnumber,orspecifyifyouwanttodisplayonlyworkordersataClosedstatus.
b.OptionallychooseCleartoresetthesearchcriteriatothedefaultsearchcriteria(allfieldsareclearedandtheClosedandCompleteNoCharges
Statuscheckboxesareselected).
c.ChooseFind.TheWorkOrdersregiondisplaysqueriedworkorders,dependentonyoursearchcriteria.
3.Selectaworkorder.
YoucansearchusinganumberofsearchparameterssuchasWorkOrderandconstructionEstimateNumber.Ifyousearchbyestimatenumber,the
valuesavailableforselectionareonlytheconstructionestimatesthathaveworkorderscreatedforthem.

basedonwhatyouhadenteredwithintheCapitalization%field.
Theasset'sbookvalueandusefullifewillincrementwiththisadditionalvaluewithinFixedAssets.
7.OptionallychangethedefaultedOffsetAccount.Capitalizedmaintenancecostsarecreditedtotheirassociatedmaintenanceexpenseaccounts,while
thisOffsetAccountisdebitedbythesameamountwithinFixedAssets.
