Creative response Read Chapter 1 A Series of Unfortunate
1 to chapter 1 of A Events-The Bad Beginning by Lemony Snicket.
Series of Discuss Count Olaf wears many disguises and
Unfortunate creates aliases. Discuss the term Alias with
Events-The Bad students. (Alter Ego, a false or assumed

Lemony Snicket. Discuss Anagram is a word, phrase, or
Alias and name formed by rearranging the letters of
Anagrams and another, such as spar, formed from rasp.
Alliteration.
Students create a name for their alias
using the letters of their full name.
Discuss Alliteration, the occurrence of
the same letter or sound at the beginning
of adjacent or closely connected words.
Students create an alias, which they will
then illustrate. Aliases should reflect
something of their personality (show
example of Mrs Shearers alias - Mrs
Helpful Hearser.

Discuss Lemony Snicket uses names of real
places, things and people to emphasise a
feeling of misfortune in the Baudelaire world.
Students research the list of names from the
story and discuss why Lemony Snicket chose
them. Eg Georgina Orwell, Caf Salmonella
Students work in pairs to research one name
from the list and report back to class.

activities are complete.

Success criteria. Students showed ta good understanding of the terms, alias anagram and
alliteration. Portraits of aliases created were detailed and the majority of students completed the
illustration to a high standard. Scavenger library hunt in preparation for participating in The Premiers
reading challenge and to familiarise themselves with the new arrangement of the library sections.
